I tried to use the max power utility to check the drives integrity.... but it does not see the usb maxtor? Is there a usb version or another way?

I am trying to save this drive for a friend, took about 12 hours to check disk, and a few to defrag... but it did.... finally. So I think saving his data is ok. I wanted to write 00000s to it and see if I can bring her back ;)

or to see if it gives me an error code, thx all

take the drive out of the enclosure and plug it into the computer through ide then run the maxtor utility on it.

If it's still under some form of warranty, you may not want to do it just yet ...

Did the fixing process involve the use of a sledgehammer?

nope, i let the scan disk run for 20 hours, ran it again...

then it would finally let me defrag (which took forever)
virus scan etc

then I backed up the music and formatted the drive (that also was harder then usual) lol

now it works like a charm

man I love computers....
