hmmm...checked the search and nothing came up for this morning's hammer drop...u guys detest hammer drops this much??
Anyways, here's the deal
Dremel
MultiPro High Speed Rotary Tool Kit
MSRP $99.00
HAMMER DROP PRICE
$44.00
Is that a good price?? My dad was looking for this and missed out on the last rotary tool kit. And he's not a fan of the cheaper ones you guys were talking about that goes on sale for 10 bux.

Yeah that's a pretty good price, and a good model.
I would not buy the new dremel they came out with. It's crap compared to this one

This is a great model. I bought a used one 5 years ago off of ebay, and after 5 years of punishment it just this last weekend it gave out on me. Definitely a solid unit, I just ordered one.

I'm tempted in getting this but what do we actually use this for? I mean, I heard, this would be handy if your doing various mods i.e, to your computer case etc...but any other things?

Thanks OP.

Yeah, the Mastercraft kit, also comes with the flex shaft which is essential if you're doing detailed and intricate work

It was used to begin with, at least a year I'd guess, maybe more though.

I originally bought one for a case mod, but have since appreciated having it many times.
Things I've used it for: taking fused pieces of a headgasket off an engine, taking rust off of all kinds of things, precision small hole drilling (in this case making a pepsican stove for hiking - the flexible attachment really helps), cutting a small notch out of a baseboard without having to take the whole thing off, sharpening lawnmower blades, polishing metal pieces, a fair bit of grinding too but specific examples elude me at the moment.
Keep lots of cutoff discs (the heavy duty ones, the light ones break too easily) and grinding/sanding attachments around, and you wouldn't believe the uses you come up with for these things.
Edit: I own the mastercraft unit too with the flex shaft, I leave it on my bench and use the dremel as a portable unit. I prefer the dremel though by a wide margin because the bits are so much easier to change.

I believe there is a 6.92$ charge if you wanna ship it to Ontario.

I am not sure now if by including a shipping charge, this unit is worth the price. Plus, I also talked to the CSR and if you need to return the item(you didn't like it or if it was a gift and the person doesn't like it either), there will be a shipping charge (from you!) unless it is a manufacturing defect.
So anyone else think this is a good deal?

Considering it's pretty easy to know what to expect as far as what you're getting with this thing the chances of "not liking it" are pretty slim. It's a dremel, it spins, and it spins good. The product is a proven model. It's less than $7 additional, half of the shipping cost you're saving in tax alone vs. buying it from the B&M. I'm sure you can find it cheaper than $99 at a B&M sometimes... but probably not $44. With taxes, and shipping, it all still came out to less than $60... I think that's fine.

Point being, Dremel is merely a brand name, of a small rotary tool. They may have well been the first, but the other's quality is very comparable. Dremel accessories, cost more than twice that of others, for instance different tips, connectors etc. Who would ever pay $100 for this thing? I have the powerfist one, and the craftsman. I would have bought the Mastercraft 150 piece kit for $49.99 when it went on sale, other than I already own 2, and don't need a third. I used the Powerfist to cut through diamond plate this weekend, flawlessly! And that one only cost me $10 at Princess Auto, with the flex shaft, plus the mounting bracket to hold the tool while using the shaft.
I have had my Craftsman for 6 years now, and it is flawless as well, and it cost less than $50 in store, when all the others were double during the big push.
What bugs me about Dremel is their marketing. At Hallowe'en, they have an orange tool for "carving pumpkins", in the summer, they just released the smaller unit for "cleaning golf clubs"... They all do the same thing, and the tips, are pretty much interchangeable. The small brass brush tip that comes with every unit is no different than the "club cleaner", and the rotary saw blade, is no different than the "pumpkin blade".

Got mine via Purolator 2 days after placing the order. Works great - used it for my kid's bridge building project, cutting a fairly substantial piece of steel that I couldn't quite get at with a hacksaw and sanding down some boards while building my deck.
Very happy with it....

I changed my mind about the order the same day I placed it, I called homedepot.ca and cancelled my order. They said "ok your order is cancelled", I thought fine.
Fast forward quite a while, I get into the office today and look what's on my desk... a homedepot.ca box with a dremel inside of it?
I check my credit card statement online, nothing there ... what the heck happened here. I wonder if somehow this thing slipped through the cracks. Chances are I'll probably see the charge appear at some undetermined time in the future, though.
They make it a pain in the ass to return, and I'd have to fight them to get the shipping fee back (I wouldn't expect to pay it since I cancelled my order...) so at this point I'm inclined to just keep it... and hope I don't pay for it. :)

If this was a mistake by a local, family-run hardware store, then I'd say yes, return it. But since it's from a billion $ corporation and you didn't try scamming them or anything, I'd say keep it! Even if you end up getting it for free, they will miss this sale by about as much as a mom & pop shop would miss a copper flake from a penny in the leave-a-penny-take-a-penny tray! :D Good luck!

I picked this box up at a specialty HW store for $136 last year. It's a steal for $44. If I saw the thread I would have picked one up for my Dad.
Extremely usefull tool. Only problem I have (don't know if it's a serious problem) is that I find it heats up fast. When I was cutting a piece out of a steel stereo rack in my car I took several breaks to let it cool. Used it many times since.

If you put a pair of thick leather gloves on you don't have to keep cooling it down  You do go through the discs fast though (Make sure to wear safety glasses!)
