About time I posted, sorry if repost/cold deal, but looks decent to me. 50 instock, who's the lucky one?

I'm aiming for a small light weight laptop, so this deal is not for me. Enjoy :)

The staples PM price is good. Much better than the American price if you price it out on hp.com, I would call and ask in store if your local Staples would have one laying around somewhere.

You can price match to $880.29 at Staples, use the $20 and $30 coupons to take it down to $830.29. But be warned, the $30 coupon expires today! So if you don't get it today, you'll have to use two $20 coupons instead.

This deal isn't very good, I bought this laptop and retured it 3 days later. First of all a 1.8 ghz turion is not very fast and the laptop as a whole is very slow. I had a p4-M 2.0 ghz with 512mb ram older laptop that was much faster and smoother running. But I will say this, the screen on the laptop is very good, and the speakers are probably one of the best I have ever heard on a laptop, so anyone thinking about buying this latop should keep that in mind.

Cheers,

....A 2ghz P4/512mb RAM faster and smoother than a 1.8ghz AMD64/1gb RAM?
Is it just me, or does anyone else see something very odd here.

yeah, something's definitely not right. Unless there's an upgraded 7200 rpm HD in the older laptop, which will definitely make it feel more snappy.

That's odd. Sure the P4-M chips are pretty quick but a Turion shouldn't underperform too much. Perhaps a bottleneck i.e. slow hard drive/memory is bogging the system down..

P.S. Waiting on the dual core Turions to come out shortly...

nope nothing upgraded, it was a toshiba a15, I think the drive was 4200 rpm. I was quite surprised how slow the laptop was. HP also puts a ton of junk on their laptops too. When I brought the laptop home, it took 10 mins to load windows for the 1st time.

yep, 42k rpm drive would do it. Also, to all: Perform a clean install on any new pre-loaded laptop. All the crap/spyware that is on there doesn't help.

If I am not mistaken, the reason is takes 10 minutes "The first time" is due to the software doing a (for lack of a better term) 'Final' unpacking / installation.

Having said that, there is definitely a LOT of extra crap on these machines that does indeed bog the system down. I am not sure if these models come with a stand-alone WinXP cd, but if they do, I would flush the system completely out and start of with the basics.

But for $900 or so, I would say this is a pretty good deal, as long as you don't expect miracles from them. That's what the dual-core models that cost twice as much as for
