Just wondering what you all bought at the Glebe Garage Sale?
anyone get any good deals?
I didn't buy anything, but did see the Body Shop had some bars of soap for $1 and shower gels for $3-5 for some Africa Spa ones (discontinued stuff mostly?)
Anyway, post your great deals or any neat items you saw for sale (even if u did not buy them).
I didn't have time to look at what the households had for sale...kimd of curious what they had :D

But tommorow is the Great Glebe Garage sale!
almost all the houses in the Glebe area of ottawa sell stuff and alot of the small stores have their sidewalk sales.
it runs from 9am-3pm and I've had so many people taking about this all week and telling me its worth checking out.

I love the Glebe garage sale, and try to go every year. I've bought all sorts of random stuff from the event over the past. It's really great to see all of Ottawa out and about at the sale, and it's nice to know most households donate 10% of their proceeds from the sale to the Ottawa Food Bank.
This year I got a flier in the mail that said Kijiji Ottawa (http://ottawa.kijiji.ca/) will donate $1 to the Ottawa Food Bank for all items posted in their buy and sell section after the Glebe Garage sale. Since it's free to post items in the buy and sell section it's a great way to try get rid of stuff that didn't sell in the garage sale.

Some nice finds within the masses of unwanted junk...
Very pleasant experience. Will definitely come back next year.
Highly recommended for the old-school bargain-hunter

Will the parking be atrocious? I may check it out if I happen to be in the neighbourhood.

I went last year and there was this bookstore called Second Books or something like that on Bank and Sunnyside... they had 50% off everything. Today I went back and I realized that they were forever closed - after 11 years of business :(
I went around 10ish and didn't anything around the south glebe area near the Fresh Fruit grocery store.
I was trying to find myself a bike

Although I didn't buy that much, I was very happy with my finds.
I picked up a couple of books ('The Kiterunner' for 25 cents, and one of those pretty cookbooks for the wifey).
My big purchase came from the tent by the Umbro sales rep who was selling off the display models of all his stuff. Bought a sweet pair of brand new Umbro soccer cleats for $25. Would definitely cost 3-4x as much in the stores (not to mention tax).
As I mentioned above, this will definitely become an annual tradition for me as long as I am in (or near) Ottawa.

First, I don't think this thread is in the right place. I don't care cause I wouldn't have seen it if it was elsewhere, but others might complain.
Second, for non-Ottawans wondering what the hype is all about, the Glebe Garage Sale is the biggest garage sale in Ottawa (in fact, I once heard it's the biggest in all of Ontario), and stretches approx 10 x 10 city blocks. It's huge and even if you go all day you could never make it all the way down every street.
I was super excited to go, but then something came up and I could only stay until 10am (major disappointment as I look forward to this all year). I managed to get myself a few pieces of junk for 25c - 1$ (beach bag, book, big vase, etc). Then my good buys were a really nice dress (person wore it as bridesmaid) for 5$ (I'm sure it cost 100-200$ new) and a EMMABO Ikea chair (40$ in store), brand new condition for 2$ (my favorite bargain of the day).
For those interested, Old Ottawa South does a similar garage sale in September. Old Ottawa South is the portion of Bank street directly south of the Glebe, so it runs from the bank street bridge (landsdown park) to Riverside drive. It's almost as big size wide, but there are way way less people who know about it, so it's easier to find parking and easier to get more good deals for yourself.
Also, to the person who mentioned Kijiji, THANKS!!! I am always looking for good classifieds website and the only other good one I know of is usedottawa.

Hmph, I was in ottawa yesterday and I never even heard of this yard sale. But I had to work anywase.
Not at the Glebe, but I did pick up some stuff at other yard sales. A blue jays autographed *by machine it looks like* baseball, roughly 1000 hockey cards *for $1.50*, a sega genesis and tmnt game for $1.50, and a few more cards, worth roughly $6.something according to beckett.com, I paid 25 cents. Thats the only one I didnt haggle on, couldnt bring myself to offer 10 cents. Ive done it before though, hehe.
