Mel was great when he was younger....Back in the North York days, he was by far the best mayor......I could even argue better than Hazel...

But in recent years he has just gotten worse and worse.....Then after moving to the mega-city mayor....he is just loosing his mind..

Perhaps its old age getting to him, or he had one too many hair transplant, or is suffering from senile..

But the last year in office he was an embarrassment to the city of toronto...
The stuff he says in public to the media, is crazy...
Still remember his interview during the SAR crisis on CNN....his outburse about not knowing what/who the 'WHO' organization was.....
craziness.

The North York part I'll agree with completely. You could say that his success in NY was brought over in some parts in the Mega City, but heck, the thing is new you would EXPECT problems here and there. I thought he did a good job, despite the odd comment here and there.

I'll put it like this. AT LEAST he spoke up for Toronto and somehow made it seem like he gave a crap about our city. Actually spoke up and was actually putting forward plans to make us the global city we should be and everyone should remember that if they think back.
Miller on the other hand sits on his hands and points fingers elsewhere ...

I'll go with the first one.

So what did Miller accomplish during his term: Lets see.

1. Cancelled a bridge. Big deal. It's going to happen anyway once he's out.
2. Jacked up taxes.
3. Took away twice weekly garbage collection (in North York)
4. Institued the ridiculous green box program which has only increased the rat and vermon population. (you should have seen the nasty rat I saw along Bathurst one morning.)
5. Got rid of a perfectly good Police chief. (which contractually also cost a ton of money to do)
5. Under his watch, crime has skyrocketed in the city.
6. Gutted most of Mel's original ideas like the summer and winter festivals which basically paid their own way and replaced them with festivals paid for by the city of Toronto.
7. Complained that there was no money to fund programs but had no problem giving himself TWO raises during his tenure!

Time to get out the broom!!!!

i voted for Tory, but the public voted in Miller. You have only yourselves to blame if you didn't vote.

In June 2001, shortly before leaving for Mombasa, Kenya to support Toronto's bid for the 2008 Olympic Games, he jokingly said to a reporter "What the hell do I want to go to a place like Mombasa?... I'm sort of scared about going out there, but the wife is really nervous. I just see myself in a pot of boiling water with all these natives dancing around me." The remarks sparked a firestorm of controversy, with much speculation that they would offend African IOC members and endanger Toronto's bid. Lastman apologized profusely for those remarks.

Wow, I wouldn't be able to respect someone who makes such ignorant comments. Then again Miller isn't much better, anyone else on the list?

Lastman was far from perfect, but at least he did SOMETHING. Miller's claim to fame is cancelling the Toronto Island bridge (which is costing several hundred million in penalties for not doing ANYTHING) and that's it. He's raised his pay not once, but twice already. He's blamed the US for gun violence that has been escalating in Toronto, rather then doing something about it. He dumped the best police chief the city has had in years because he was too tough and did not have Miller's 'vision', and put in a hack. Miller has continued to raise taxes, yet won't make any cuts to superfluous projects.

And I like a mayor that's high profile, even if Lastman did embarass Toronto at times to the public eye (i.e. boiling pot comment). He loved Toronto, and you knew he did. Miller has been an absolutly horrible mayor in comparison.

Great. Jaywalking and spitting on the sidewalks are down.

The MFP inquiry cost the city MORE than the computer deal. Who is in jail?

Taxes were a hell of alot lower.
We had more services.
There was less garbage on the street.
Gun crime rates were much lower.

Wow....thats a big cost.

Frankly I think we should just de-amalgamate.... all of the suburbs voted for Tory. Downtown can have Comrade Miller and they can also pay for their social services sucking the life out of the suburbs. At least I hope York and Peel Region get to cut off their support for Toronto social services too.

Miller was born In San Fran, but moved to England at 2 and to Canada at 9 years old. More the half of the people in Toronto were born in a different country. It's fitting that the Mayor should be the same.
