If I have an average of 80% or 81%, what would my GPA score be?

You can't convert it directly like that. Depending on how deviated your grades are your GPA should fall between 3.3-3.8. If you had lots of 90's, and 70's it would be lower, and if you had all 80's it would be higher.

It depends on what method your school calculates GPA. You can not calculate your GPA based on your term average. You will have to list your individual class marks in order to find out your GPA.

can someone do this for me, or tell me how to do it? I don't get actual grades (i.e. A, B, B+, etc) ... I just get a numbered average for each class.

well different schools use different scales and ranges when calculating gpa; so there is no simple answer to your question

here's the one for u of t:

Grading Regulations

Percentage Letter Grade Grade Point Value * Grade Definition

90-100 A+ 4.0 Excellent
85-89 A 4.0
80-84 A- 3.7
77-79 B+ 3.3 Good
73-76 B 3.0
70-72 B- 2.7
67-69 C+ 2.3 Adequate
63-66 C 2.0
60-62 C- 1.7
57-59 D+ 1.3 Marginal
53-56 D 1.0
50-52 D- 0.7
0-49 F 0.0 Inadequate

* The grade point values above apply to marks earned in individual courses; grade point averages are weighted sums of the grade points earned (see below), and thus do not necessarily correspond exactly to the scale above. For example, a B+ average would include grade point averages from 3.20 to 3.49, while the lowest B- average would be 2.50.

I hate gpa...my last 4 marks: 75, 94, 84, 89

average: 85.5 A+
(overall average would place me in the 4.0 category)

actual gpa: 3.68 (places me at around an A- I think)

That's not a GPA I would complain about ... at all.

for ryerson (and others that use a 4.33 as perfect)

A+ 4.33 90-100*
A 4.00 85-89*
A- 3.67 80-84
B+ 3.33 77-79
B 3.00 73-76
B- 2.67 70-72
C+ 2.33 67-69
C 2.00 63-66
C- 1.67 60-62
D+ 1.33 57-59
D 1.00 53-56
D- 0.67 50-52
F 0 0-49

and btw, why does UofT have the same value for A and A+?
"90-100 A+ 4.0 Excellent
85-89 A 4.0 "

It used to be 4.3 for 90-100, but it was reduced to 4.0 to bring it in line with most US universities...

so if you get between 85 to 100, it's the same? that's quite a rip-off since that's a large spread.

Just to let you know that your 80% average and 81% average doesn't mean that your GPA is exactly 3.7(as shown on the chart) it doesn't work like that!

I know a lot off first year students and high school students who thought that they could just convert their % average to an actual GPA, but it doesn't work like that at all.

You could have 85% average and get a 4.0, but you could also have a 90% average but GPA is only 3.3! Consistency is the key!

yup, that's why it so annoying if you end up at 83-84...so close to getting the 4.0 score

You should hear the complaints by the "top" students saying it isn't fair that they worked their butts off for 99% while someone who gets an 85% also has a 4.0 GPA.

When I figured out the way the GPA works after the first semester in college, I went from the former to the latter.

Well at U of T (and I'm sure other places as well), in many courses (and disciplines) it's almost impossible to get 90s...

For example, the course I got a 75 in, I was the 4th highest! Only 1 person got above 80 (81)!!!
