May 5, 2006 — A Conewago Township woman told police she smokes marijuana every day with her 13-year-old son as a reward for completing his homework, according to court documents.
The woman, Amanda Lynn Livelsberger, 30, now faces drug-related charges on suspicion of smoking the drug with her son and two of his friends.
Thursday, Livelsberger waived her preliminary hearing. Her next hearing is scheduled June 19 at the Adams County courthouse.
On Saturday, Conewago Township Police executed a search warrant at Livelsberger's home in the 200 block of Oxford Avenue, just south of McSherrystown. Police also questioned her and her son.
Police seized various drug paraphernalia from Livelsberger's bedroom, including a bag of marijuana, two cocaine straws, a small heroin vial and 31 new small glass pipes and bowls, according to court documents. Livelsberger told police she bought the 31 glass pipes to resell them, police said.
Also seized from a lock box in her son's bedroom was $600 cash, which Livelsberger told police belonged to a drug dealer, court documents state.
Livelsberger is charged with three counts each of corruption of minors and possession of a small amount of marijuana, and one count each of endangering the welfare of children and possession with intent to distribute drug paraphernalia.
Livelsberger told police she has been smoking marijuana with her son since he was 11 years old and that she usually smokes it with him as a "reward," court documents state.
The boy said that, when he gets off the school bus, he is required to do his homework first, then is allowed to smoke marijuana, police said.
Police said the boy indicated his mother told him if he smoked marijuana he would forget about his father who was in prison for selling and smoking crack. She also told him that smoking marijuana would not hurt him like cigarettes would, police said.
Livelsberger told police she has also smoked marijuana with two of her son's friends, ages 17 and 18.
In an interview with police, the 17-year-old said he has been smoking marijuana with Livelsberger since he was 15 and that she offered him cocaine and heroin in the past, according to court documents.
The 18-year-old told police he has smoked marijuana with Livelsberger in her bedroom since he was 17. He also told police he has seen Livelsberger snorting heroin and cocaine and that he previously purchased a bag of heroin from her for $20 and snorted it in her bedroom.
