I mean no offense here and I totally respect the Asian culture, but isnt redflagdeals supposed to be a Canadian website? Wouldnt an image that represents the Canadian culture be more appropriate?

Once again I have nothing against Asians and I also believe they form a huge and positive part of our Canadian culture but they are not representative of the whole Canadian culture.

Wouldnt a more generic symbol be more appropriate like say maple leafs, squirrels, Canadian flag, multi-culturism, etc.?
Maybe loonies and toonies? These symbolize Canada and reflect deals.

Wikipedia has a list of the National symbols of Canada
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_symbols_of_Canada

Do you have any suggestions or ideas? post it here and hopefully Ryan and Derek will embrace one of the ideas :)

i vote on some poutine... nothing says canada like poutine. [sarcastic]

i actually like the rfd girl, i think it adds life to the generic vbulletin forum. also reason why i found out about rfd after it stood out in the 24hrs newspaper (or was it a metro?)

i dont see why not to keep it. its not like its rfd's symbol or anything. its not in the rfd logo. shes hovering above a search ad for pricecanada (rfd affiliate). sorry but i dont see her anywhere on the MAIN page either.

the maple leaf is already the symbol and "canada's largest Bargain Hunitng comminity" is rfds catch phrase.

it seems to me like a lot of people are offended because it 'looks' asian. its NOT a big deal. just let it go...

Im not offended :)
and since its not RFDs logo I guess it's not biggie.

maybe the girl should've been eating poutine though ;)

oh, i dont want to seem like i was directing that at you. i was just saying that because theres some other posts with a lot of tension in it about the 'rfd girl'. it doesnt seem like a big deal to me.

maybe this thread shouldnt be called 'replace the 'rfd girl''

rfd girl can co-exsist with an Official mascot that the mods could do some sort of promotion thing for. who can design a new Official mascot.

i read my post again and it looks really negative sounding  my bad, not my initial intention.

Why not something to do with a Looney since it's on our $1 coin, and this site is about saving money.

For those who are not in the know, the RFD girl is less of an Asian culture thingsy and more of the Anime sub-culture product. From Matrix (the movie trilogy) to Nintendo or Playstation (console games), the animation industry in North America has been so HEAVILY influenced by their Asian (Japanese) counterparts that almost every young animator grows up watching Dragon Ball Z.

And please, we do NOT need those beavers or ducks to reinforce the outdated, biased imagery that Canadians are slow and stupid. Check out the latest Metropolitan Flavour campaign (re: Toronto) for some new ideas instead.

Anime culture orginates from Asia

"Anime (Aj, Anime?) is a style of cartoon animation originating in Japan, with distinctive character and background aesthetics that visually set it apart from other forms of animation"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anime

not that there is any thing wrong with that :)
I personally adore anime (I've watched loads of anime and they made me laugh and cry) but I don't think it's related to Canada in anyway.
I might be wrong though

If beavers or ducks are outdated what do you suggest?
Where did you get the impression that "Canadians are slow and stupid"?
Where can I get more info on the "Metropolitan Flavour campaign"?

Enough with the RFD girl threads!!!! I think based on the fact that RFD is highly successful, that Derek, Ryan and their team know what they're doing. Let it go!

Agreed.

To Derek and Ryan: I'm willing to pose in a RFD thong and become the model for RFD if requested.

PM me if interested.

Okay, letme get this straight. An Animated Girl Isn't Canadian Enough? Does every Canadian Company need a Maple Leaf or Beaver in it's logo? What does poutine, beavers and ducks have to due with a website about deals? The OP's avatar is an American Cartoon, perhaps he should change it to a bowl of poutine because he's Canadian (Not that I have anything against Americans)

In the original thread 15 posted that they were FOR keeping the RFD Girl and 11 posted against and wanted some kind of change. This truely is the topic that won't die. [/end rant]

Actually I haven't noticed the RDF girl much, but now that I see it I can somehow see your point. It looks rather unrelated to anything on this site. I admit I don't watch anime so maybe I can't relate to that whole culture but I'd imagine regardless of one being an anime fan or not, that girl simply doesn't have anything to do with the contents of this site.

Well that could be a new idea, instead of that anime girl, send off some cheap RFD shirts to female members of this forum, and recieve their pics wearing those t-shirts and post them in place of anime girl.

That might start to bring in the wrong kind of crowd...but I must admit it's a better idea then a Duck (not that I have anything against Ducks)

Replace it with a Picture of Alabama, ya know to grow your base; or a picture of Harper.

I personally don't see anything wrong with the anime girl, just because this is a Canadian site, I think putting something like a beaver or another maple leaf on it with make it really boring. The maple leaf and slogan says enough about it being Canadian and the anime girl just adds a little bit of flavour to the site or showcase Canada's diversity, if you want to put it that way.

There is a maple leaf on the RFD logo and that little advertisment. Its also in red and white.
Why does it need more "canadian" cultural content?

Its meant to get attention. People look at a cartoon more than a maple leaf or some other image they have seen a million times and tuned out.
