View Full Version : The Great Kobe Bryant

As you'd imagine, there was some interesting Kobe chatter in the desert in the wake of Game 7.

One story circulating among the Suns is that Bryant strongly encouraged teammates not to linger on the floor after the final buzzer for post-series handshakes. Suns ex Jim Jackson was one of the few Lakers who did stick around to congratulate his ex-teammates, as well as the L.A. coaches.

"I got the handshake I wanted," said Suns forward Tim Thomas, referring to Lakers coach Phil Jackson, whom Thomas called "a legend."

• Trivia question: Which player from the Lakers and Suns, before Saturday night, had played in the most Game 7s?

Surprising answer: It's the Suns' Raja Bell, who returned from a Game 6 suspension to play in his fourth career Game 7, one more than Bryant or Nash. Bell is now 4-0 in those games.

It's one thing not to shake hands with the winning team, but to discourage the rest of your team from shaking their hands as well? I mean really...what's wrong with this guy?

one story circulating....there are many stories circulating, such as jesus is black, he is chinese named jesus hong..

only thign wrong is he is the undisputed best player in abilities in the NBA right now and that causes alot of jealousy and hatred. when you are so good, people get jealous and make up reasons to make themselves feel better for being inferior.

Undisputed?

Like I've said in other threads. Kobe has game, but he just doesn't have that impact that players like Duncan, Shaq, Magic, Jordan, etc. have....that impact to take their team to the next level. He's just another T-Mac. Amazing talent, but just can't win when it counts.

It's what seperates the boys from the men.

But MVP is our very own Steve Nash! Where's Kobe? How good a player is if he can only score points and not able to win games? Think about that.

He was outplayed... plain and simple. Probably didn't want to embarass himself on the court any longer than he already had to.

Kobe should watch Nash and take a few tips on how to be a team player and on how to be classy on and off the court and on how to put your money to good use.

I don't know all the details but they were talking about it on the TNT show last night after the Clippers/Suns game.

After Game 7 of the Suns/Lakers series, Barkley said that Kobe is "selfish" and gave up on the team in the 2nd half. Supposedly, Kobe wasn't too happy about that and text messaged Barkley over 20 times, swearing and voicing his displeasure. LOL.

It's got nothing to do with his 'skills'...but more so the fact that he's a complete 'idiot'. MJ, Bird, Magic, Wilt, Dr. J, and the list goes on..were all great players in their time..and I don't think they had the same stigma attached to them as does Bryant.

At a younger age, Lebron James seems to be much more polished and mature than Bryant will ever be and eventually James will take over in the 'skills' dept. as well.

Depends on what you define as skills.

Like I said before, if you took Kobe off the current Laker team, and put Nash in his place.. I think the team with Nash would do better (and I'm sure most people would agree... that's precisely why nash is the MVP). So I think that shows Nash has more "skills".

Looking at the 2005-06 year:

Scoring
Kobe averaged 35.4 points on 45% shooting
Nash averaged 18.8 points on 51% shooting

Although Kobe scores more, he also took twice as much shots as Nash, but was much less efficient.

Verdict: Tie

Rebounding:
Kobe averaged 5.3 rebounds per game this year
Nash averaged 4.2 reboiunds per game this year

Verdict: Tie

Kobe is 3 inches taller, jumps higher, has a longer wingspand, but is only getting 1 more rebound per game than Nash? That's pathetic.

Ball Handling:

Advantage: Nash

This one is self-explanatory.

Athleticism:

Advantage: Kobe

Not even close. LOL.

Defence:

Advantage: Kobe

Kobe is a much better on the ball defender than Nash. However Nash has shown signs of improvement.

Penetrating

Advantage: Nash

Self-explanatory.

Breaking down defences

Both do this well. However, the difference is Nash can break down a defense and take a high percentage shot or find the open man for an easy basket. Kobe breaks down a defence and jacks it up.

Advantage: Nash

Free Throw Shooting

Nash is the best free throw shooter in the NBA, but Kobe gets to the line alot more.

Verdict: Tie

Team Play

The Suns have a similar cast as the Lakers, yet managed to have a better record, win their division, and also managed to come back from a 3-1 deficit in the playoffs to beat the Lakers.

Nash also makes the players around him better. Kobe doesn't.

Advantage: Nash

MVP Awards:

Nash: 2
Kobe: 0

So according to my count...Nash wins 5-2.

That doesn't mean a thing...it's the MOST VALUABLE PLAYER ... NOT THE MOST STATISTICALLY BEST PLAYER, please comission for a MSBP if you insist. Who is more valuable to their franchise...I think of it this way:
PHX - NASH vs LAL - KOBE vs DAL - Dirk vs DET - Chauncey etc etc
IMO it is clearly evident that the DAL-DIRK and CLE-LBJ is the greatest (in terms of effect on team w/o the player). However, I somewhat see of a reason of PHX - Nash being a great difference, LAL - Kobe even more compared to Nash.
