Your modem is also a router.
Either turn off the routing functionality of the modem or log directly into your modem forward ports from there.

PS. When asking questions you need to a lot more info. as to what you are using, model # etc.

Are you using the Speedstream 5200? if so, you will need to "hack" into it to allow for menu options that you cannot normally see. I had to do this for a friend out near Barrie.

I followed this tutorial and was able to port forward afterwards

I don't know if the options are the same for the 5242.

Can you access the other pages though? The port forwarding pages?

i only have a "mode" page which has auto connect, reboot
and a status page and a bell id and password page. that's basically it. :(

*edit:
how do I do step 1 in that link?
"Step 1: you have to make sure your IP is set to 192.168.2.2"

It means set a static IP for your computer.

You can do this in Control Panel -> Network connections. Right click on your connection, select Properties. TCP/IP, and enter in 192.168.2.2 for your IP. Your subnet mask and gateway should be 255.255.255.0 and 192.168.2.1 respectively.

You can find the mask/gateway info by going to start -> run, typing in CMD, then typing in IPCONFIG at the command prompt window.

You should disclose what is in between your PC and your connection to Bell.

You will need to first configure the port forwarding in your Linksys router.

Because you're using the Linksys, I don't believe you will need to configure the Speedstream.
