View Full Version : Canada Post s&h Kit w/ eBay
angelove
May 5th, 2006, 07:27 PM
LINK: http://pages.ebay.ca/help/sellerguide/shipping/shippingkit.html
What’s in the kit? All the tools you need to make selling on eBay and shipping with Canada Post easier than ever:
Stack & Weigh Postal Scale: to weigh your packages
Measuring Tape: to measure the dimensions of your packages
eBay Packs: to package your items
Labelopes: to affix shipping labels or Customs documentation to your packages
Canada Post Step-by-Step Shipping Guide: to get valuable tips on shipping your eBay items
eBay Special Consulting Offer: to help you create a profitable eBay business quickly and easily
I'm actually looking forward to receiving this (a month later lol, 4-6 weeks) if Canada Post doesn't run out.
!!! You will need a Canada Post Item Number / Reference Number (like when you receive one of those notice to pick up a pkg at your local postal office). If you shipped an item w/ tracking I'm pretty sure you can use it because that's what I used and got accepted.
EXPIRES - June 30, 2006 *updated* - It's been extended! *grr* Still haven't received mine. v_v
If someone has already posted this, please delete mod. ^^ If not, hope this helps out other ebay sellers. Doesn't anyone find it a pain to always drive all the way to the postal office and get things weigh/estimated? *grr*

So you have to sell something to get this kit?
I'm always at the post office because I don't have a scale like they do ... gotta get one of those and this thing would be over (going to the Post Office to check weight)

I picked up a scale at a yard sale for 10 cents. It does the job up to 450g, give or take 20g it seems. I wonder if the scale thats included is more acurate than this thing. I tried to sign up but it kept saying the security code was wrong, even though I typed it exactly as it was shown on the screen. I used mozilla.

I did that, I figured that was what was keeping me from getting it right. So I tried a few times with out it, after like 10 tries I just gave up.

Last time I sold an item on eBay, I weighed myself without the item and then weighed myself again holding the item. Since my bathroom scale is digital, it was pretty accurate.

Since my bathroom scale is digital, it was pretty accurate.
um, what are you talking about?
House hold digital scales are usually not as accurate as the old round circlely
ones where there were numbers on a wheel. For the old ones, you could jump up and down, and then just stop moving and you will be able to see your weight. With the digital ones, you more a little bit and all of a sudden you've lost 20 pounds..
Now the huge industrial digital scales are totally different, unless you have one at home... your measurement is not going to be better than the old scales :cheesygri unless you also have a REALLY OLD scale.

On the ebay forums, a lot of people are saying that the scale is quite cheap so I guess don't get your hopes up.
If you're looking for a cheap scale, I got a small plastic one at Daiso ($2 store in Richmond) that is used to weigh food. Only goes up to 500g though but I usually don't ship anything heavier than that. Not the most accurate scale in the world but does the job since I only need to figure out which price range it falls under.

Okay, this is odd, I got 2 rejections emails even though my tracking numbers were on May 16, 2006... wth? I used 2 different addresses and 2 different email accnts but still did not qualify for both.
Do you need to have a venture card in order to be elgible or something? v_v
You need to have used that ebay shipping label thingy.

Same here, HowEver. I used a tracking number from April 30th, and they said I did not qualify.
"In order to qualify to receive your free shipping kit, you must enter a Canada Post item or reference number that was issued between May 1st and June 30th via eBay's Online Shipping tool."
As far as I'm concerned that a load of huey. Those stipulations were not in place when I entered my TN.
They were. There were two stipulations:
1. TN from >= May 1st 2006
2. you used the ebay online shipping tool (costs $$$ I believe)

Exactly how long after submission did you get the rejection email?
I submitted mine, using their example tracking number which it accepted, and so far I've not gotten any rejection letter.
A few weeks.

Anyone else notice that the shipping labels don't show the postage amount... or any sort of transaction id?! How is Canada Post supposed to know how much you paid for postage?
I just printed off a US small packet airmail label....

Yo know all you are really getting is a cheapo measuring tape. The "scale" is useless, they'll all end up landfill when people get sick of them collecting dust. CP gives the lableopes out for free being that their happy to cut their commission collecting outlets out of the deal by gettting people to print their own postage.

Hi, what are CP's "labelopes"? ^^; Are they really free? My postal office lady (the one at Markville Mall) has never told us about this. In fact, she hides the eBay brochure from sight. T_T
I wish my area had a closer PO so I can pick up my items within walking distance.

The labelope is a clear palstic pouch the right size for a printed psotage label to fit in. Its sticky on the back so you can but the label in and stick it to the box. A few lengths of packing tape will do the same thing :) Some outets will have them, but they can be ordered at the canadapost.ca business centre. You need a venture1 card first to be able to log on. If you don't print your own postage labels you don't need the labelopes. If you do print your own postge you're better off logging on canadapsot.ca then using the bug ridden paypal version.

Yup, but a labelop isn't *really* needed, taping is what Canada Post generally recommends (it also says that on the ebay shipping instructions), but if you have extra customs documents, etc.. then that's when a labelop might be useful.

The online shipping tool is pretty much the same as EST and going to the post office (considering you enter the same values) except it's just for ebay only.
As long as you legitimately shipped using the ebay tool during the promo period you should recieve your kit. Glad to see that they are actually verifying the orders to keep it fair for legitimate people (i.e. don't run out giving it away to just about anyone who filled the form out but didn't meet the requirements)
These conditions were always there from the beginning of the promo, the computer just didn't verify the TN on the spot which is why it accepted any old tracking number.

I guess may be that's why I haven't receive my kit. =( I haven't had the chance to use eBay's print labels yet.
If anyone has one and be willing to offer one to me, please PM me!!! Much appreciated. =*v*= It's ironic that since I was the op for this topic, cannot receive it...

Personally I like the scale.
I never had the intention of buying one, so this suits me just fine for my ebay shipments.

It doesn't cost extra $$$ to ship via the ebay shipping tool. It's actually quite convenient compared to the Canada Post online business centre because all the info is already entered. The only problem with the ebay one is that it forces you to pay from your paypal balance. Unless you have a CAD paypal balance, you end up paying for the postage with your USD balance at paypal's very very bad exchange rates.
So, as convenient as the ebay one is, I still find myself using the obc at canadapost.ca.

True... it doesn't cost extra, but instead it actually costs less because of the discount. But, I find the process too troublesome. I've used the online tool to check postage, and then when I went to get it properly measured and metered at the counter it's usually less. Along with handling costs (buying a box or whatever) it just doesn't work as well as I hoped.
They should almost create an account where you can deposit say, $50 for shipping, and have it auto-deducted from your account when you ship.

you can actually select payment from your credit card instead (which is what I do). This way you get the CC points and I use my Paypal balance when I use my Paypal debit/credit card and get my % cash back.

Hmm...I've received the kit for 3 about 3 weeks now. Use it along with the shipping tool, works great, no complain what so ever. The shipping is even cheaper for me than the store. Always ship the same size and roughly same weight item for what I do...so I can comfirm that it is cheaper and troublefree to do it at home.
I use paypal for payment for canadapost now, this way, I know exactly how much I made on an auction, instead of having to up CC bills and then ebay fee...and all the trouble.
