I'm looking at getting a set, but GolfTown is way too expensive. Is there any Canadian site? Ebay is good too, but it's hard sometimes to get people to ship to Canada. I'd rather deal locally.

I just bought a new set of Wilson Fat Shaft IV graphite shaft irons with the hybrid 3 & 4 from eBay for CAD $250 + $30 in duty. That same set with the non hybrid 3 & 4 from Golf Town is $689 with taxes. I saved myself $409. Many eBay retailers will ship to Canada. I bought mine from an eBay seller called RockBottomGolf.com.

Sorry to hi-jack, but I'm actually looking for new golf clubs. Would it be a good idea to say, drive down to buffalo and check out a golf galaxy store down there perhaps.

Have you tried Golftown or Nevada Bob Golf? Not sure what your budget or your skill level....but GT is selling Callaway Big Bertha 2004 irons (replaced by 2006 model) for just under $500 for steel shafts.

Add a high lofted driver and/or a fairway wood #3, a sand wedge and a putter and you are good to go.

there's always tons at the Goodwill on Dundas @ Islington area. Since the Kingsway is nearby, you may find some good ones from the local rich people that are getting rid of their old ones.

I visited Nevada Bob's earlier this evening. I think I will be going with Adam's iron's or perhaps the whole set and pick up a random putter or woods/wedge depending on which I choose. I have been told the Adam's clubs are very forgiving.

They also have a Ben Hogan iron set (BH5) coming in this week listed at $299USD on their website but will probably be $399CAD. My budget is around $650 for the whole shibang. I think even that amount is slightly too generous given my skill level but I like to splurge on toys. I'd be better off spending the money on lessons.

I've also noticed that club prices down south are significantly cheaper than here. I was tempted to order a set off ebay but the shipping+handling fee would be close to $200, last time I checked. Even with that extra fee, it seems the prices still work out to be cheaper than here. I shall continue searching but I defintely want to pick something up by the end of the week.

Any suggestions are very welcome :cheesygri

I recommend buying a set of quality used clubs at TGN http://www.torontogolfnuts.com including:

5-PW irons
3 and 4 hybrids
3 wood and maybe 5 wood
a 11-13 deg driver if you must
a putter
a 56 deg sand wedge

Research and/or ask for very forgiving (ultra game improvement, super game improvement or game improvement....ranked by forgiveness).

If you want something cheaper than $500 for a set of NEW irons, the Tour Edge Bazooka's for just under $400 might be worthwhile (Golftown). I think that the discontinued Ben Hogan BH-5 (for low to mid handicappers) and BH-5 offset (for mid to high handicappers) are also in the same price range ($450....was cheaper before at GT). The BH-5 are very much like the Callaway X-14's of old.

Cleveland Launcher LP are for mid and high handicappers and are priced in the $350 range at Golftown.

Check the forums/classifieds section at:

http://www.toronto-golf.ca/

I believe it's a sister site to the Ottawa one mentioned earlier.
