View Full Version : lost partition...how can i get it back

so i was in the phase of installing windows (xp pro) and made 3 partitions
one was 60 gig for windows
90gig for data and stuff
and 6 gig for recovery
but now when windows finished loading i see the 60gig on my computer and i see the other 2 as well but they comes up as 0 bytes
where/what happend to it and how can i get it back...i thought it would partiion it self but now what can i do???

During installation, it likely created the three partitions (you can view them in FDISK) but only formatted the one onto which you installed XP.
All you should need to do is format the other partitions (using FORMAT or a third-party program) and XP should then "see" them.
At least, that's what it sounds like to me.

Go to Administrative Tool --> Computer Management --> Storage --> Disk Management.
Right click on the partion you want to format, and select "Format". If that doesn't come up, then you have to create your logical drives first.

Seriously though, good advice above.. not much more to add. It's likely still there, you just need to format it to access it.

i dont know if this is right but i just went to my computer and right clicked on the drive and clicked on format and i can see it now
but qucik question i selected default file allocation instead of 1024, 4042 or something like that....what is that???

Short answer: It has to do with the way in which your files are stored on the disk.

Usually the default allocation is fine. It seems like the logical drives were created, so all you had to do was format. I guess you solved your problem on your own.
