I would consider the rest of your system and monitor first. If you're running a 3800+ X2 or better then it might be worth it, anything slower and it's not worth it, too much of a miss-match of speed/parts. Also, if your running an LCD that maxes out at 1280x1024 then not really worth it either as the speed would most likely be wasted on such a low rez.

Also with new DX10 cards just around the corner, it might be better to save your $ and wait it out. Though, if you find that games are not running as fast as you would like then maybe it worth the jump.

Lastly, you might consider getting an 7900GTX, i personally went from a 7800GT to a 7900GTX and saw a pretty big difference. I went from ~7500 in 3Dmark 05, to a ~11050. Also most games that were a bit skippy are running perfectly smooth now.

I say dont do it, save your money for now, but not with the mentality of waiting till dx10 cards come out. Its gonna take awhile, and even then, first gen dx10 wont be perfect, so your gonna have to wait till the second batch, and by then all the games you wanted to play will be less cool.
