View Full Version : Is Bell Sympatico Upgrading High Speed to 5Mbs?

Rockstead

Check out the link on the Bell Site.

The spec for the High Speed and Ultra are exactly the same.

High Speed Ultra up to 5000 Kbps
High Speed up to 5000 Kbps

Apparently they already have. I have ultra and the only upgrade i get is some security software that i dont want. I was expecting an upgrade to 6-7, kinda disappointed but oh well

Seriously, you are paying an extra $10/month for just the security software?

I have not seen any increase in speed, I am still capped at my 3Mbs.

Have they announced when current high speed customers will get free upgrades to 5Mbs?

Hrm...would be nice, but my connection is exactly the same, humming along at a mere 2.5mbps. Are there roll-out dates advertised for this at all?

Some people said that they've got the upgrade, some not. It's depending on what sector in are in (from Quebec)... If the area where you are living got good speed (actually it's 3Mbits for High Speed), you will get a better chance to get the upgrade.

By the way, High Speed Ultra upgrade will be 6 Mbit (MAX).

I've heard that their lines can handle 8. I only pay 44.95 a month, but i get a $5 bundle discount so it is only 49.95 regularly (isnt regular 44.95?).

As for the when, i think it is a roll out process, i know when they upgraded the ultra to 5 it took a while for me to get it, had to call a few times, see what was going on. I think they should only give the regular 4 to keep the ultra faster, cause its not really ultra if all you get is some crappy software.

I was the news on upgrading from 3 Mbps to 5 Mbps last month before I switch my DSL ISP, but the thing is I am too far away from the CO and the ~2.5 Mbps is the most that I could get... Until they create another CO close to my home.... 8-(

Upgraded for awhile, south east of montreal

Download over 550KB/s+

And apparently, new clients on high speed will have a 60GB cap since ultra got the same speed, at least here in QC

You might call them to check the status. My CSR told me my line can only go to 3Mbps. I am wondering if I should switch to cable with 3web to get 6Mbps and $24.95. Is it capped? Do you suggest me to change it?

Why don't build more COs so that most of us could get beyond 1.5mbps? instead of "Ultra" for the ultra lucky to live close enough to a CO. Wouldn't it be better to upgrade the masses rather than have ultraspeed for the few? I've been with Sympatico for 3years and still the connection is slow.

The problem is to build a new remote CO it costs around $70,000 and Bell cannot afford to build that many at that price.

Bell called me yesterday evening ("courtesy call") to see how I was enjoying the service and to confirm pricing. I asked about the upgrade from 3 to 5 MBps and the guy said that they are rolling it out. It does depend on the area, though.

Yah. My Bell HSE DSL service was bumped up to 5mbps yesterday.

My service was interupted for about 6 hours on Saturday between 3pm and 9pm...the DSL modem refused to stay sync'd. I didn't bother to call and figured they may have been doing some upgrades in my CO. When my service resumed on Saturday night, it was still 3mbps.

When I checked again last night, it was now 5mbps.

last wensday morning my connect thru a independant local ISP that gets there connections thru bell went from a 3 meg connection to 5 meg ... that just saved me like $25 more a month ($56.30/mth unlimted for 5 meg normaly) for what I was going to get a few months back. My isp told me that is just what bell is doing to all lines that are capable of handling 5 meg connections & that my monthly fee will not change ($27.60/mth unlimited).

My belief is that Bell is starting to enable the ADSL2.2+ standard over there lines in major areas which means there is a good chance some folks might be able to get 12 meg down / 1 meg up service over there dsl connections. Lookin good .... :) :cheesygri

Actually, I have a friend near Beatrice or is it Beverly? Past Bathurst-near Little Italy. He managed to get High Speed at one point and then they downgraded him to dial-up. They said that their system could no longer provide the service!

Just ask Bell.

The Indian signup center will sign you up for anything. Online it could say that your neighbourhood is basic only and if you call the help desk to enquire, they'll be more then happy to sign you up to ultra high speed, and convince you that you'll achieve those speeds. Of course, you'll only achieve basic speeds, but you get to pay the nice ultra high speed prices  Yahoo. I love Bell.

Typically it is a rollout process done over night with a certain number of DSLAM's done each night until the entire network is upgraded.

I think I'm probably going to switch to 3web cable soon. Might as well go for the cheaper alternative to Rogers.

In Markham, I'm getting these speeds as well, when I'm NOT BTing. Just gets lower when I do :P

Same as the Hamilton guy luckystrike, unlimited bandwidth is defiantely a plus over Rogers. Plus, I get aeroplan miles. Insteald of switching to 3Web, you might consider PMing Bell with them - that's what I did, and I'm paying only $29.99 modem waived, which is technically even cheaper than 3Web as they do charge you for modem fees. And speaking about CSR, Bell's crap, but don't expect anything better from 3Web. PMing is defiantely the way to go.

Check your modem stats.

http://www.dslreports.com/faq/9775

You will see what profile you are set at. 3008/800 will become 5056/800

to see how far you are from CO is also shown in the line stats by your attenuation (lower the better). You can also see your SNR (singal to noise ratio) and how well your line is (the higher the better)

Hey guys, so is there any reason to go with Highspeed Ultra vs Highspeed?

Also, do they offer newsgroup access?

What about the 60gb bandwidth cap? Is that still in place?

Most of all, how reliable is it? My rogers high speed access is rock solid in terms of reliability.

1) No, do not get ultra.

2) Sympatico no longer offers newsgroups officially but another company is offering free 1 gb accounts for Sympatico customers.

3) The 60 GB cap only applies in Quebec and I also heard only on select promotions.

4) As long as you have a good phone line, realiability is top notch. My access has not gone down at all since March and then there was only an outage for a few hours.

Question:

Tuesday night, I called bell and upgraded to High Speed, cuz I needed the unlimited bandwidth...today, I noticed my speeds were over 450kb/s on limewire and for a sec it went over 600.....the thing is they told me its gonna take about 5 business days for my service to be upgraded....but it only took 2 nights...so, since my speed went up to highspeed, does that mean my bandwidth is now unlimited?...

cuz before I upgraded I had basic, which gave me a monthly limit of 2gb...right now im at 1.2gb...I dont want to d/l anymore, until im certain its umlimited...

no you should be getting at least 300 if they havent upgraded you to the 5mbit if they have it should be over 500. I guess it also depends where you are getting it.
