They looked horrible in both game 6 and 7. Not surprised really.

haha, nice picture. Flames have no offense and relied on clutch and crab in 04 to make it to the final. Those days are over.

I guess this means no "Battle of Alberta" that the Calgary people have been talking about for a couple of days..

Mabee they should have focused more on Anaheim and not Edmonton

wild guess: leafs fans?

I have this strange tendency to support all Canadian teams in the playoffs but T.O. fans don't seem to share this philosophy.

Do you really think Montreal or Ottawa fans would really support the Leafs if they were in the playoffs and their team was out? I don't think so...

I wish they won so that Edmonton could beat the crap out of them (ideally). On the other hand, just the fact they lost makes me a little happy on the inside too.

I don't mind the Flames so much. Although they are really boring to watch, I respect that they play a system well suited to the makeup of their team.

What I hate are the bandwagon fans that have been talking sh it for the last two years like the Flames are the centre of the universe (reminds me of Leafs fans, lol). I heard all sorts of crazy stuff like, they had a dynasty in the making (when they really only have a good goalie and overpaid Iginla). And not just from the fans, but also on Calgary radio and stuff. And these are from people who, prior to the 2nd playoff round in 2004, use to think the Flames suck and hockey was dumb (Calgary fans think hockey is stupid if they are losing).

Icing on the cake was the comparison between 3rd period Game 6 Edm-Det and Game 7 Cal-Ana. Rexall place was a nuthouse, even louder than usual as the fans tried to help rally Edmonton from a 2-0 deficit. The Saddledome was a tomb, and you could literally hear the "C of Red" thinking to themselves "I wonder if I can find the receipt for my jersey."

Sorry, I'm from Edmonton, grew up hating the Flames. But then had to endure a couple years in Toronto. So I have plenty of pent up rage. :D

The Flames just didn't show up the last 2 games...

Who were those guys anyway?

I am a big Flame fan and I'll agree based on the last 2 games... Flames lost their Flame (sorry no pun intented).

As for Edmonton, although I lived up there for 18 yrs of my life, and I will probally watch the games I will be cheering for the Sens.

See on the golf course Flames!!

**Flames flag now flying at half mast

The only Canadian team I want to win the cup is Edmonton. Mostly because of my dislike for Montreal and Ottawa. And also because Calgary is the boringest team in the league.

I would have to disagree with that. Why would Ottawa fans support Montreal or vice versa? Those teams are rivals in every sense of the word. Supporting the other side would be like supporting the enemy and a big nono IMO...

I was at last nights game ( I use the term loosly). In the edmonton game the oilers where playing and the game was hard fought the whole way. The dome was a nut house the first 2 periods, but when they came out for the third and rather then pick up their game they let it slide even futher its hard for anyone to chear on such a sad group. It was like watching a jr A team out there, very sad.

As a fan I was very disapointed in last nights game, not from the fact we lost rather from the fact we lost in such a manner.
Loosing in OT after a hard fought game, you still leave the game glad you went, but last night even the die hards where disapointed.

I personally like the flames and their physical edge, but when everyone talks about how the flames are a "proven" team and "built for the playoffs" after missing the big dance for nearly a decade, it's one of those things that make you go hmmm...

As a Sens fan who's had to endure the days Darren Madely, Petr Sidorkiewicz, and all those rounds vs. the Leafs, I've learned not to plan the parade before the puck hits the ice. Planning a parade each and every year is okay if your a Leafs fan ( :D i kid, i kid), but it doesn't look good after just one SC finals.

In any event, though, they'll do alright next year. The only real ginormous contract is Iggy's. But once they get rid of Simon and if they can get rid of Hamrlik, they'll have cap room to play with for more offense. And Kipper @ 2.9 is the steal of the Century.

It's hard, but how will your team get motivated if their fans are not in it? In fact, your silence ends up hurting the Flames and encouraging the Ducks. Come playoff time, teams are playing for their fans and their pride, and not their paychecks. They need their fans, or else their pride will suffer and they are left with nothing.

The Oilers got completely dominated in the 2nd period of that game, like 17-2 in shots. But we kept them in the game in the third period. Being a fan means sticking with your team, through the good and the bad (kind of like marriage). Whether they are awesome or sad, you still cheer them on. Probably more when they are sad, cause you want them to encourage them to be awesome.

Otherwise, you're just on the bandwagon (not you personally, just bandwagoners in general).

It's absolutely true tho. We respect each others team and share a common love of hating the leafs.

Like I mentioned on another thread, the Flames are just not a very good hockey team......They rely too much on Kipper..
I thought the final score of 3-0 in the game 7 is a great indication of how the team is overall.....Their failure to score really shows.

Sutter is a good coach, but he is a failure as a GM....He got really lucky when he stole Kipper from San Jose, no way anyone could've predicted he was this good...

At the end of the strike and start of this season, there was 1 glaring weakness for the Flames...That is the lack of solid offensive talent..

So what does Sutter do?

He let Gelinas and Convoy go.....He signed/traded for Hamerik, Hulse, Amonte...Not where addressing their weakness...
Traded a solid defenseman (Lydman) for a 3rd round pick...
Then at the trade deadline, he should've again addressed his team's weakness of offense yet, didn't trade for any solid scorer....settled for Lundmark..

Compare that to Kevin Lowe of the Oilers, their weakness was defense depth = he got Spacek and Tarnstrom for next to nothing......
a 2nd line scorer = he got Samsonov for spare parts and a pick.
Goaltending = he picked up Roli for a 1st and 2nd rounder, where the Oilers are stacked in youth, and don't need more picks..

Thats a GM for addressing his team's weakness....Sutter failed to do his job.

Another downfall of the Flames, the huge contract given to Iglinia(7m/year)...Iggy is a good player, but he is not a $7m a year player...he is not the same dominating player in the class of Jagr, Thornton, Sakic, Forsberg, etc......A $7+ million player needs not only be a good player, but also be a player that makes other players better..
Iggy doesn't do that.....How many times have we heard the Flames say they need to find a Center for Iggy to play with.......Iggy should be able to play with 'normal' players and turn them into good players...IE. Thornton turned Cheechoo into a 56 goal player..... Oveckhin had nobody to play with and he scored over 100 points.....those are dominating players and worth $7mill...not Iggy...If anything, Sutter should've traded Iggy after the last playoff run, when his market value is at the highest....get 2-3 good offensive players in return for him....Or even offer Iggy to Boston for Thornton...

Not surprised one bit, the Flames blew the dust...

Hope now that all those bandwagon Flame's fans admit that their team wasn't as good as they claim......the Flames weren't the be all and end all of hockey teams.
