Woulnd't it be great if 19 inch lcd monitor has 1600x1200 resolution? I see laptops with 15.4 inch screens with 1680x1050 resolution. I don't understand why they have to stick with 1280x1024...

Yeah, I agree. I wouldn't mind seeing some 1024x768 res TFTs also. 1280x1024 sucks, as it is 5:4 ratio.

Sounds like a great business opportunity then.. instead of asking why "they" don't make something, you should become "them" and sell one.

I will. I was forced to buy a 20 inch LCD because the 19 inch LCD couldn't offer the 1600x1200 or 1680x1050 resolution I was looking for, which unsurprisingly (1600x1200) is offered on the 19 inch CRT equivalent. No two LCD screens of the same size should have the same resolution (unless we're talking 1 inch on 16:10 monitors like the 20 inch dells vs the 21 inch hp's I think as an example.)

I never really liked the 1600x1200 resolution on my 20" CRT, everything didn't look right.
now with my 24" at 1920x1200, I don't notice anything differently than my 20" @ 1280x1024... cept when I view high rez pics or something.. never having to resize the zoom is awesome.

Because of costs... and because generally people sit further away from their display than somebody with a laptop. And since it's LCD, you can't really change the resolution. So to make it easier on consumers and themselves, they didn't go with any higher resolution. I don't see what the big deal is, if 19" doesn't have the resolution you want, you can't go to 20"? If your issue is with the price, then you wouldn't have gone with a higher 19" resolution display anyways, because it would have been more expensive than a 20". As for space being a reason, well, there isn't much difference between a 19 and 20".

Notebook LCD screens usually have insane resolutions.
