Congratulations to the Sabres for beating Philadelphia by an unconverted touchdown tonight.
Buffalo-Ottawa should be a good series as the Sabres have good goaltending and Tampa Bay did not.

5 is really stretching it, don't you think? Yes, Buffalo's recent wins against Ottawa were against a decimated team, but Buffalo is on a tear.

I'm seeing seven games, especially because Ruff seems to be very good at exploiting home-ice advantage. They had a 90% PK and 25% PP at home during the regular season, too.

how does that make people spineless?

I could care less if "the cup is back in Canada"... pretty much every team is "canadian", so the cup ends up "back in Canada" anyways when each player gets their turn with the cup for a day... :)

Not if it's Ottawa - the land of lazy civil servants, who do crossword puzzles all afternoon at their desk.
Ottawa has won the Cup before - many eons ago, but Buffalo has never won.
Buffalo is the underdog and even though I predicted Ottawa to win the series, in my heart I want Buffalo or San Jose to go all the way.

Sorry, I'm really overheating from that win by Buffalo (if you can even call that a win)

But seriously, rooting for the Sabres is................ wow.... not impressive.

I don't care where the players are from, a Canadian cup isn't until a Canadian franchise brings it home.

Love the Sens.... never missed a match on SportsNet this year.... been a fan since 2001. You have no idea how frustrating it is to see them choke early in the playoffs year after year.

Yeah. When I was taking computer programming in college, I went on 2 coop work terms in Ottawa and worked for the Federal Government.
I saw first hand how some (not all) of these silly servants abuse their time at work.
The government could cut the staff in half and enforce that time is properly spent at work doing their job - and the same amount of work would get done.

i was a fan of the sens in the really early days... i remember i loved them when i won proline (only 30-40 bucks, but it was a lot for me at the time :)) because they beat the habs :) then they beat Jersey in the playoffs (with tugnutt and/or rhodes, i think) -- i think that was in the mid to late 90s when i was still in junior high school.... ahhh, the memories... then they became rivals of the leafs, so i was obligated to hate them :)

True... only game one. I thought Emery did alright though, not much he could have done on quite a few goals. But yeah, PLENTY of mistakes.

also, we gotta work on our PK...2 shortys..not good...WAY too many odd man rushes too..

thats how we burned tampa early in round one...now the sabres are doing it to us...im sure Murray will let the guys know about it.

The Sabres have always been a bunch of goons. Mostly subpar players. No real solid, stable players. Now they lost Hasek and bought a handful of kids to freshen it up a bit, hasn't helped all that much. They've also played the trap for years like the Devils... not sure if they still do, but if you call that exciting..........

The Sens may be mostly Europeans, but they are a commited team that have for the most part been together for years. They haven't changed their roster all that much over the years, most of their key players are well established now. They're extremely well balanced and calibrated.

Great game between Anaheim and Colorado.
Lupul beat Colorado 4-3 and ex-coach, Marc Crawford called Lupul for the winning goal before the overtime started.
Good game by Theodore - couldn't fault him.
Terrible giveaway by Brisebois - no wonder Montreal got rid of him.

If Anaheim, San Jose, Buffalo and Carolina get through to the semi-finals, then a team the Stanley Cup winner will be a team that has never won before.

only cheering for them in this series though... Leaf fans should hate the following teams in no particular order except the first two (I wouldn't even put Montreal there):

1. Ottawa
2. Philadelphia
---------------
Montreal
Buffalo
New Jersey

basically the better teams in the East.

so Go Canes WHEN (not if) Carolina play Buffalo.

I dunno, it's always tricky when cheering for other teams than your fav, especially in the same conference.. Remember 2001-02 when carolina took out the leafs in the eastern finals? I can still get a mad on for them for that.. ;) Damn Irbe! The leafs woulda lasted 6 at least against the wings in the final!!

Still, there is a definite element of satisfaction watching the somewhat smug senators get a dose of reality.. I can almost forgive Buffalo for Peters' golfing motion that last game they played.. Mostly because I haven't noticed his name on the box score at all! Hmm, wonder what he's been doin.. Silly goon..

agreed no doubt it's tough. the difference is we had one series against them. and them Canes fans are a lot less cocky... I was in Carolina for one game and they were pretty friendly people. I can't say the same about Sens/Philly/Habs fans.

I remember there was one time I went to get my car in downtown TO after the Leafs lose a game to Ottawa in one of the series (of course they won in the end), but two Sens fans, a couple, was riding rickshaw in downtown TO laughed and made gestures at me... I was furious... I wasn't to f-ing run them over. I'll never take more pleasure in beating the Sens / seeing them lose than any other team.
