If you purchased with a credit card, check your credit card company if they offer price protection. However, some price protection policies don't cover computers and peripherals since they know these prices can be volatile.

i've heard bad reviews on the Panny drives... but is it true for "all" of 'em?
regardless, as others mentioned, another unit to use as a functional drive isn't too bad.
DVD-ROMs cost at least $20 these days (cheapest i've seen was $25)... so for $10 more, why not upgrade it to a dvd writer... ;) )

What about the Acer 17" LCD at 190$?
Oh, I know it's not the best out there but it's for my sister, replacing her CRT.
Internet, some Word, Birthday cards maker and MSN Messenger...you know what I mean?!
So I don't think she "deserves" a 5ms, 1000:1, DVI 19" at ~400$...
But I don't really want to buy piece of crap obviously!

Yup. In shipping section select store to pick up at (likely Richmond for you), finish the checkout. You'll get email order is received, then an email order is processed, follow by order ready for pickup email. All should take less than a day. Print out ready for pickup email, bring to store, bring ID (driver's license) and CC.

nice price on that ocz 512mb usb key for $13Except the rebate link doesn't work.
For those asking about OCZ rebates, the postings on the 1 GB USB drive page seem to indicate that it takes close to 3 months to receive, and you have to send in the logo from the clamshell case, not from the cardboard backing.

not too familiar with panasonic drives, but it would only make sense that they use their own chipset, and the panasonic chipset isnt very good. BenQ used a panasonic chipset in their DQ60, and look how that turned out.
but yeah, for 30 bucks, it is at a low enough price to be considered, but i wouldnt recommend it as your primary dvd writer... maybe just as an extra drive.

anyone know if it is possible to order on internet and then go in person to pick up the item you order? (is it possible?)
If yes, how does it works?
Yes you can. They even have a special counter for Internet order pick up at their Burnaby location.
So basically you'd choose the pick up option and the location where you want to pick up (Burnaby, Richmond, Vancouver, Langley). After they sent you an e-mail saying that your order is ready, you'd print out the order confirmation (not the pick up notification) and bring it to the store along with one piece of photo ID and the credit card that you used to place the order. A NCIX staff would verify your information, ask you to sign on the invoice, and then give you the items along with the receipt.

not too familiar with panasonic drives, but it would only make sense that they use their own chipset, and the panasonic chipset isnt very good. BenQ used a panasonic chipset in their DQ60, and look how that turned out.
but yeah, for 30 bucks, it is at a low enough price to be considered, but i wouldnt recommend it as your primary dvd writer... maybe just as an extra drive.
That, and Panasonic is very bad for firmware updates.

Thing is, you probably can't get a DVD-ROM for a price much lower than that (last time I checked DVDROM still sells within the $20 to $30 range) so it's definately worth it for the guys that are aiming to build an alcheapo computer, or you're just a casual burner, burning no more than once or twice a week, then it woudln't matter.

how do you know if you are entered in the sweepstake? I hit the submit button , and all it did was refresh the screen with the blank form! :s
Do they send a conf email to say that they entered you, and that they used your order number to add extra submissions?
My form got refreshed too and didn't get any confirmation email on sweepstake entry. Is this a normal thing?

sadly, all the 5.99 specials have been puro for me. im going to assume the same with this one.
i would rather have canada post han purolator.
even during non-shipping promo sales, for me at least, purolator shipping is always cheaper for some reason
purolator is my favorite courier by quite a bit. their air method is always next day, anywhere in canada, while canada post is always 2 business days for me, from BC to SK. their ground shipping is also usually a day faster than CP.

i'd agree that u should pay just a bit more $ to consider getting the $30 Panny drive as opposed to a dvd-rom drive f/ ur local compy store, but i'd disagree w/ the "casual burner" concept...
IMO, it'd still matter even if u burnt one disc per yr! :P

Hmm but I don't quite understand how it'll be updated daily either.
So will only the SURPRISE SALE deals be updated daily, or do we get a new "weekly" sale everyday? So if there were 18 items left today (there were 21 when it started), that means perhaps another 21 would be added onto the 18 making it 39? Whoo.. divide by 3, that'll be a long list (13 lines). Or does it work differently?
I think this is the first time NCIX has done daily sales, right?

shipping promo probably uses whatevers cheapest for them so air for smaller items but ground for things like cases/speakers/monitors/etc.
One thing to think about is whether you might place another order within the week. In the past ncix has only allowed one flat rate shipping promo per account (not sure about this time though.) I got burned a bit by this at a previous flat-rate shipping week b/c I made a somewhat small order and opted to use the flat-rate shipping to save a couple of dollars but later in the week I thought about ordering a case which had a much higher shipping rate than the original order.
In the end I opted to order the case from tiger direct with their free shipping but I would have preferred to give the business to NCIX.

Get someone else at home to order it for your. Of course you wouldn't want to create a second account which works but is morally wrong :| . Having said that NCIX probably prefer your second acct over losing business to TD.
I got burned a bit by this at a previous flat-rate shipping week b/c I made a somewhat small order and opted to use the flat-rate shipping to save a couple of dollars but later in the week I thought about ordering a case which had a much higher shipping rate than the original order.
In the end I opted to order the case from tiger direct with their free shipping but I would have preferred to give the business to NCIX.

where's the TY dvd's? they usually have them in their weekly sales but not this week.
they did have 'em the 1st 1 or 2 days of the NCIX sale...
i believe it's OOS for the surprise sale price, so they took it off.

the normal wkly spcls most of the time don't sell out, so there's usually no need to add to cart to guarantee stock.

The thing is, there's no point in trying to guaranteeing stock, because it won't work. NCIX checkout system checks the avaliability of the product even if you've added it to your cart previously.
The only reason why would would want to put something in your cart temperorialy is to guarantee the PRICE of a special item.

Is it just me, or did NCIX lower the price of the BenQ 20" Widescreen monitor??? I think when this current sale started it was over $400, now it's $379.99. This I believe is a very reasonable price for this monitor.

If you think they make money on flat rate @ 10$, you've definetly never shipped a box by mail or courrier...
I sent a CPU box to Toronto (I'm in deep Quebec actually)...final cost: 12$
I've ordered a bunch of stock, including a multi-purpose printer (kind of heavy stock...)...final cost: 10$ with this flat rate
For all of you that aren't very good in geography, BC if is more distant from Qc than Ont... ;)
So, I think this flat rate is a good thing, even if it's not 6$ like before. Oh, FS has free shipping but good chance if you want to build a whole PC from there...They has some great special on goodies and stuff sometime, but nothing comparable to NCIX on day to day.
So, come on guys...stop whining about shipping! :D
A seller can't ALWAYS have the better price. You found the same item locally, same or better price, without shipping? Great, just buy locally, you will create job in your city. But I think we have to agree with this fact: NCIX has great prices (can't be always awesome) and some good shipping promo when we're patient. IMO...

nah... more like when we whine a lot about not being offered flat rate s/h :cheesygri ... and then ppl say "s/h kills the deal"...

Completely agree. Look at Canada Computers... "Free Shipping", BUT $10 Handling charge. Almost everyone charges similar prices for shipping. There are a few that have free shipping like Dangeo, but you'd have to spend over $500. Unless you like paying prices at FS/BB/Staples, you won't get free shipping.

well, let's remind ourselves that these $1 or less items ARE promo items intended for ppl to make large/semi-large purchases here...
btw, according to NCIX, the reg. price is $2.18, so the MSRP has to be at least $2.18 or greater...(i don't think NCIX would reg.'ly price this > than the MSRP ;) )

these are just regular Value Line Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's, with an 8x rated speed. Taiyo Yuden did just officially change the rated speed of their value line DVD-R's to 8x, though.
as for the tru blu, its probably just the name Precision media gave them.

You're not familar with jewel cased media prices, are you? It's not rare for the jewel cases to cost 30%+ of the actual media.
It's not so much that $0.79 is a bad price, it's more that $0.50-$0.60 is a very good price!!

']You're not familar with jewel cased media prices, are you? It's not rare for the jewel cases to cost 30%+ of the actual media.
It's not so much that $0.79 is a bad price, it's more that $0.50-$0.60 is a very good price!!
I don't know about jewel case prices, you're right. All I know is that locally the prices of jewel cases are like:
14mm DVD - $13/100
9mm DVD - $12/100
7mm DVD - $10/100
FullSize CD - $12/100
SlimCD - $8/100
LMAO, and I'm serious. I buy them in 100's boxed up all the time, considering that I burn 300+ DVDs each year.
Thanks for clearing it up on the price of the Plus media itself though. I guess I might be picking up a couple just to test, instead of getting the extra savings in a 50 cake.

The BenQ FP91G+ 19" LCD is $239 for special price. The regular price was around $300 yesterday, and is $259 today. Will the reducing of the regular price affect the special price? cuz I'm looking for a good 19" LCD.

Guh!
I just bought the LG L1951S on sale for $249 over the weekend, and that one doesn't have DVI (also 12ms, but that doesn't matter to me much). And now this BenQ one, which has DVI, comes on sale for $239! >:(

But how does that explain the 50-Pack cakes for $30 on their usual sales? That's 60c each - I don't believe a jewel case is 20c, let alone more than that.
actually, like buck said, JCs can cost QUITE a bit...
i remember back in the days buying those 10pk cd-rs in JCs and comparing the price w/ the same brand cd-rs 50pk spindle w/o JCs and the $/disc diff. was huge.
and remember... we had a short discussion w/ DD and others at one time about the fact that there's also diff. qualities of JCs too... ;)
so maybe these are some high-quality JCs ... :P
factoring in the cost of the JC, cost is more like $0.50-$0.60 per disc...

wow... those are some really cheap prices for cd/dvd cases there...
i'm not too sure about the price about slim-sized cd/dvd cases, but the full size cases it's more like ~$18-20/100 (cd/dvd)...
well, those prices are what i remember the last time i looked ~1/2 yr ago at some local compy store....

20" WS, 8ms, 8 bit panel for less then 500 bucks taxes and "express care" included (which I still think is a scam but I know if I don't get it I'll get a panel with dead pixels). Cheaped out on the shipping though... Can't wait to try it out.

A good quality jewel case, manufactured with virgin materials, will cost MAXELL somewhere around $0.20 CAD, and about $0.30 to the end user. A cheap chinese made Jewel Case, with lot's of recycled product used when manufacturing, will cost about $0.19 to the END USER (about $0.15-$0.16 CAD wholesale).
There is also all the printed material costs to consider, and the labour involved in packaging the product. And then the added shipping costs because the product is much more bulky and heavier then bulk.
So yeah, it DOES make sense ;)

I'm surprised to find this, especially because the quality of the JCs that I've been getting at these "super duper low prices" have been pretty good in quality. There's usually a few witin the 100 that needs to be thrown out, but usually over 90% of them are good.

All your NCIX sale postings have this statement.
This is misleading, as NCIX has always charged me HST (for the last 2 years) even after I pointed out your posting to them. They say they are not responsible for incorrect info on other web sites and they are now required by law to charge the appropriate tax on every sale. In the past it was an advantage to shop NCIX as I had to pay GST only. I see other postings in your forum that say don't pay any PST if outside B.C. So what's the deal here? Could you enlighten me on this please? Alternatively, please confirm the facts with NCIX and remove this incorrect info from your posting as you are promoting a business on false pretenses.

All orders shipped within BC will be charged 7% Provincial Sales Tax. Residents of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland will be charged 15% HST. All other orders within Canada will be charged 7% GST.
May be you should PM the mod directly so they don't miss it.

"No PST if you aren't in BC, so there are further savings there. "
If you really want to get technical, the first part statement is correct. Here in Ontario we pay GST and PST. You Easterners pay HST. Since HST isn't PST you could argue that Ryan's statement is correct since you guys aren't paying PST at all.
You could probably argue that the "Further savings outside of B.C." aspect of the statement isn't correct though ;)

I guess I did not make myself clear in the post. NCIX insists they charge PST on all orders as it is required by law. I did have a lenghty discussion with one of their sales manager and it was explained to me that it does not matter where the shipment goes to, the appropriate tax for that province has to be charged. They used to charge me GST before although the HST was applicable. My question is, if NCIX does not charge PST but does charge HST then it is an issue we can take up with NCIX otherwise the post is misleading and needs to be corrected. After all, deals are posted for all readers in all provinces and any exceptions should be clearly outlined.

I'm no tax lawyer or expert, but last time I checked PST isn't applicable on out of province purchases. So I don't see how NCIX or RFD is misleading anyone there. As far as the HST is concerned, I was under the assumption its law now to charge the full amount, not just GST. Again, I could be wrong. Do other etailers charge East Coasters the HST? Or just GST?
noname
May 5th, 2006, 03:42 PM
GST, HST and PST are all separate taxes (i.e. HST is not GST+PST)
GST and HST are both FEDERALLY administered taxes, so any business in Canada must charge it, depending on the location of the purchaser. PST is a provincial matter and a business only charges PST to purhcasers in the same province as their physical store or where they are requried by law to be registered. NCIX is registered in BC only
HST is special in that in exchange for the Federal government collecting the HST, the province (all on the East Coast btw) gets a portion of it in leau of administering its own PST.
for those not on the east coast, technically, PST is chargeable on out-of-province purchases, but it is up to the purchaser to make that disclosure and pay the tax to the province.

Yeah negative reviews have to be approved by staff. They don't like people giving a 1 star review and just saying "it sucks" or something like that. Of course if someone posts a 5 star review that simply says "this is awesome," they look the other way.

It sucks, anything less than 3 stars and you have to enter an order number. I placed a large order over the phone and that order number doesn't work when I try to enter it for a review. Ended up just giving 3 stars and stating that it would have been less if I was able to.

Yeah, but common, saying "updated every other daily" just sounds lame
But yeah, I agree they should have stuck to their guns. Something like start with 10 or 15 "surprise sales", and have them run for 48 hours with limited quantities, the next day bring out another 10 to 15, and at the end of that day, remove all of the original ones that didn't sell out, and bring in 10 to 15 more.

Who would buy this consider the OCZ one is $7 cheaper?!
Just realized it ends tomorrow... so whatever's added now will be what's at the end of the sale. Hopefully they'll start adding "end of sale specials" starting around now ;)

I dunno... maybe cuz no rebate? OCZ rebates are very questionable...

True, but for the quality difference, I would rather risk it. Speaking of which, they still owe me $7 from a pack of RAM I bought during the first days of March. Emailed them a while ago but no response.

Well they could've smartened up and promoted something like: "More Specials to come for the duration of the sale!"
I'm sure they've been monitoring this thread, so I wouldn't be surprised if the next time they try something like this, it's close to your suggestion. Although who knows when they'll do a sale this big again.

Email NCIX support, they will get you in touch with an OCZ forum where you can contact them about your missing rebate. That's how I had to do it, still waiting for them too, but at least they show up on rebatestatus.com now. It's been since December!!! So YMMV with OCZ rebates.

Do you have any proof about the quality difference? Ex.: the Transcend SD 2.0GB 80X is a TRUE 80X card unlike the 133X OCZ and it's 100% compatible with any camera.

We're talking about the 512mb USB2.0 Drive, not 2.0Gb SD.

I placed an order on Saturday, and it arrived today by Purlator (in T.O.), so that was pretty fast!
I ordered the 2GB OCZ SD Card and the OEM TRU BLU TY 100pk, I just checked, they turned out to be TGY02, (which is a nice surprise since that's better than the expected TGY03!) if anyone's curious.

Well... YMMV. Some BB's do, some do not. From my experience, I'm 0 for 3. They always come up with a lame excuse. Anything from NCIX not having stock (even though they do) to NCIX not having a good return policy. Technically BB should PM, but they are not consistent.

Really!? I didn't buy them since people said there was little chance of them being TYG02 and according to DD, there was supposed to be some good Maxell media on sale. Since today's the last day and there doesn't seem to be anything of the sort, what happened??

This is dissapointing to end the sale with the addition of these two items... I expected a spectacular end to their 10th anniversary specials - something "fireworks" sized.

It won't be in the next sale either unfortunately.... but I *CAN* say that it's much closer now then it was 2 days ago. there are a few formalities in the way, but I would expect it in next weeks sale if all goes well (and if people move quickly)
