Well, I don't think it is a repost, as from what I can see in the other thread, there is no mention of the Aeroplan offer (although I did not scroll through all the 11 pages). And knowing Aeroplan sells 1000 miles for 40$, I believe getting 500 miles for free makes the initial offer even more attractive.

it normally takes me 4 weeks for it to get updated. and i don't think it gets resetted as last time i used it was 3 years ago and my mileage is still there.

Air Canada Aeroplan miles expire 3 years after your last flight with Air Canada - though you don't have to use points for the flight. Check the fine print in the contract, many people have been burned by not realizing this!

Dear RFDers...

I ordered 3 DVDs from my Aeroplan/Columbia house email, and I got a receipt saying that they will email me once it is approved...

Did anyone get a similar post after choosing their selections?
How long should I expect to wait?

Thanks!

Actually I don't think this is correct. They expire after 3 years of inactivity, not after your last flight. My girlfriend kept her account active even though she hadn't flown for 3 years by ordering something online that granted aeroplan miles (this was last year), so unless something has changed, as long as you get or use aeroplan miles in any way (Futureshop, car rental whatever counts), you'll be fine.

i can vouch for that^.... only after 3 yrs of inactivity...

the easy way to keep it active is to just go to ESSO and fill up $3 of gas (if ur that cheap) and use ur APM card there... 1 point for every $3 spent at Esso
and then go back to do the same ~3 yrs later :P

Not sure when they will ask for our Aeroplan #. If anyone receive that sort of email, please update everyone here. I have a feeling that I may have to call their CS to get the 500 Aeroplan miles.

I saw this yesterday. Looks like a great deal!

BTW, last September, I called Aeroplan by chance and my account was just about to expire. They told me to make a purchase at Esso within the week and I would be okay. Thank god! I would have lost a free flight if I hadn't made that call.

I have received the 500 bonus point today
Last day for this promotion is May 24Did you have to call in for your 500 points? What did you have to do to get your points?

EDIT: I just called Customer Service (no toll free available - had to call 416-299-8181), and the CSR I spoke with had to put me on hold (i.e. it sounded like she wasn't familiar with the promotion), but came back on the phone, took my Aeroplan number, and told me the points would be credited.

On another note, has anyone signed up a 2nd time and received a 2nd 500 point bonus?

Thanks in advance,

Shneebs.

Anyone know how quickly you can quit Columbia House afterward, and/or what you have to do to do that?

I became a columbia house member more than 3 years ago, at the time I signed up the agreement was that before I could cancel my account I had to purchase 4 more dvd's a regular club price ($19.99 and up). Im not sure if they have the same terms for new customers now though.

The only complaint I had with columbia house is that every month they send you a directors selection card which you have to respond to either by mail or online or they would automatically send you a 30 something dollar dvd. However a phone call took care of this problem and they automatically decline the selection now.

Just thought I'd share that for some of you that are thinking of signing up.

Also I'd just like to be sure of something, from my understanding standing so far this offer is for new customers only. Am i right? or is there a chance I could get in on some of this action as an existing customer?

This deal is for real. Selected 3 DVDs several weeks ago, got email to enter aeroplan #. DVDs arrive last week along with 500 aeroplan points in acct.

Now it's a wait and see if applications from different family members submitted last week will work.

I estimate 100 aeroplan points = $1.50. So 500 is worth $7.50. Unless you want some DVDs, it's not worth it.

Well, to BUY aeroplan points is $0.04 per point.

To buy 1,000 you pay $40+taxes+$10 admin fee.

So 500 points is worth about $20+taxes+$10 admin fee.

If you would buy aeroplan points at that price you should be banned for life from RFD. That deal is too cold to be measured by conventional instruments. If you spent $250 "buying" points at that rate you would have enough for a $50 gift card.

$9.95 for 3 DVDs is worth it alone, the 500 points is a great bonus, plus they credit you the points pretty fast, i got the points within 2 weeks after i joined, the dvds took some time to be sent, but all 3 arrived

slightly better thing for this deal is there's no commitment, you just pay the amount and i guess if you want you can cancel your membership

NOTE: if you don't cancel make sure you choose not to accept those directors' picks selections, you can do it by phone or online (unless u want to pay $20+ for a dvd)

cactus
May 24th, 2006, 12:53 PM
Well, I wouldn't spend $250 buying points, I'm simply saying that's the "market value" for it. If you are short a couple hundreds you might need to buy some points and that's how much they would charge you. Especially for people who don't travel often, they might want to use the points that they have instead of waiting another couple of years to accumulate that last couple of hundreds.

$9.95 is a good deal for three DVDs, with the aeroplan points is a added bonus.

People its not difficult. Pick 3 DVDS, await their arrival, call a 1800 #, give them your acct # & address, utter "i'd like to cancel" (be brave now!), tell them "because they aren't $3 now" if they ask why, say thanks, hang up phone.

Wrong. Say you have 74k points, 10k short of 3 flights that can be booked together thus will be seated together. 40 bucks to buy the 10k points sure saves lots of hassles. Anyone knows booking with aeroplan seats on non-major route aren't easily available.

Get 10k points and 6 DVDs for 20 bucks is a HOT deal.
