Anyone know if this is possible for the UK? I am looking to subscribe to GQ UK but cant find anywhere that ships to Canada.

Scoop,

I was using your idea for just one magazine, it’s been working for almost 5 years, but i just did other channels.
For renewals it had been a pain for me; i probably used the wrong channel to do it ;)

So I got tired of this and started surfing for options here in Canada, it is discouraging not to find any, and well I came with this tread. It is even discouraging to know that this is the only option. 

Anyways, your email make me realize that I don’t have any other way, so lets continue using it  I will check your sites (I didn’t used them before), I hope is going to be better for me this time! ;)

Anyways, I don’t like to cheat the magazine publishers, but they look for it! ;)

Thanks man!

Vini

EmperorOfCanada - yes, check out the other tread on what magazines are available. There are quite a few in there. you have to be deticated to checking for address change though. GL

Thanks for the response, but meaning what exactly? I notice the dead links in the address change page here but presuming I can find a magazines change address page.. should be that easy no?

You realize that all they did was do what this thread does, right?

They sign up for free subscriptions in your name, and then change the address when appropriate.

(Except for the eBay seller that got me 3 years of WIRED for $10 all-in. God knows how he did that.)

Sorry but you are flat out wrong. I have purchased subscriptions for magazines that never show up on the free sites and for multiple years. i.e. PC Gamer 3 years for $8, Official Xbox Magazine 2 years for $10, US Weekly 3 years for $20.

They did not sign me up using free sites as I always purchased multiple years. It was some sort of discount re-seller agreement to bring up the subscription numbers so the magazines could charge more for ads.

Found a few mags on ebay.com that I was thinking of ordering - if I did and gave a US address should I be fine changing that address to my real Canadian address after a few weeks?

Muscle & Fitness, GQ, and Esquire are the mags that I'm looking to order.

Thanks

Usually when I do this I will subscribe to the magazine I want using my parents address (they live in Indiana) then after a couple weeks I will change it to my Canadian address.

I have found a magazine that I want to subscribe to, the problem is they already have the same subscripion. If I subscribe using their address with my name, then change it to my address will I mess up thier own subscription? I'm just worried that both subs will end up coming here..

I don't think it'll make a difference - I'm sure lots of "Smiths" live in the same apt. buildings & therefore have the same addresses. Maybe just add "2nd floor".

Under ebay's new policy, magazine subscriptions are no longer permitted to be sold on the site.

Theres a way around it tho. I just bought a subscription from someone on there. Well, they werent selling subscriptions.. they were selling "MAGAZINE 4 YEARS GIFT CERTIFICATE". sneaky sneaky :) Paid on June 9th and got my first issue in the states already. August issue should be set up to come here.

This is a joke post right?

No, it is not. I am asking this question because there are numerous other sellers on ebay who will only ship their items to CONFIRMED addresses when using Paypal. This means addresses linked to a credit card or a bank account.

One ebay posting states you provide the seller with your address and they handle everything else. If you provide them with an American address, instead of the Canadian address that is actually linked and CONFIRMED on your Paypal account, you could run into problems with the seller because they think it is a forgery / identity theft

The "gift certificate" posting states that the certificates will be physically mailed over to you to finish the process. However, the Seller only lists United States as options for mailing the gift certificates. In both cases, you may run into problems with the Ebay Seller.

You can always tell the seller this is a gift subscription and provide the "US Address" of your "friend" for the subscription.

I always buy Lucky magazine (for $5 an issue!) So I followed this thread's advice, and not being able to find it on ebay, I registered for it with an American address. (It was $15 for two years, as opposed to the Canadian price of $20 for one year). A few days after I ordered it I got an access code and changed my address.

It wasn't free, but paying $0.62 per issue is a lot better than $5!

Wow 71 pages and like 3 years old and this is the first time I'm seeing this thread!

I'm surprised it's so popular anyway... I mean people other than doctor's offices actually still get magazines mailed to them? LOL.

Back in the day I had subscriptions to like every major auto publication--Car & Driver, Road & Track, Motor Trend, Automobile, not to mention the Canadian Wheels; plus Popular Science, Video, Stereo Review (which eventually turned into Sound & Vision which was also a separate publication). And others.

Today? I don't have a subscription to anything. With the advent and popularisation of the Internet, why bother? It's all online, for free (well other than your ISP bill)...

In the future when you do these deals it will never appear instantly. You just signed up with a third party (in this case mercury magazines) not the actual publisher. I would expect they send over the subscriptions weekly or bi-weekly and from there it takes a bit of time to appear in the publishers system.

Long story short, make yourself a note to check 2 weeks from today and weekly if it is not in the system by then.

Enjoy the free magazine

question (again!);

if i sign up for a magazine for a year... then wait the 4-6 weeks and do the address change, then i wait.... BUT THEN it pops up again for another free year, and i sign up AGAIN, then i'm putting my old US address in again (after already having done the address change thingy...). does that matter? will they then NOT send the magazine to my canadian address since i have reverted it back to the US one? so many questions about this process!!!

Have a bit of patience as Maxim will come up for free soon enough. If you dont want to wait then yes, what you suggest will work, but you wont be able to change right away as even if you sign up with the magazine itself it will take a few days at least for it to be put in the system.

I didn't receive anything, but I was able to log into my account for Car and Driver just now and changed my address. I subscribed on Oct 7.

The change of address wasn't instant... there is this message on my account

Internet transactions waiting to apply
Transaction Type Date/Time (MT)
Change Of Address 10/23/2009 7:17:57
Change Of Address 10/23/2009 7:20:31

and if I try to log in again, I have to use the US address I used, not my Canadian address.

I was able to log into me Metropolitan Home account today (subscribed Oct 8). Changed the address and but the change wasn't instant, just like my Car and Driver account. And that reminded me to check my C&D account, which the address still hasn't changed.

Anyone else still waiting for their address to change? Does it always take this long?

Hi, can you please clarify what you mean by "change wasn't instant"?

FYI although not free, I've signed up with Popular Mechanics mag by calling Hearst Corp (parent company who also sells Good Housekeeping, Cosmo, etc) customer service.

Afterwards, I logged on my subscription account and noticed my address was misspelled so I corrected it. I notice the update was accepted but was not reflected in the delivery address. I assume this is normal? I have to wait a few weeks?

Thank you.

It wasn't instant, as in it didn't update the shipping address to my Canadian address the second I clicked on submit. There was a message saying that the change is pending verification, or something like that...

Which reminds me, I should check if it's updated now...:!:

It took about 4 days for my address change to be reflected in my account once it was submitted. In the interim, there was a note on file indicating that an address change had been submitted, and was pending. I should be getting the December issue in the mail when it is shipped.

The only change of address I could find was for Americans only, but
http://www.bridalguide.com/contact-us/
provides an email address and 1800#

How did you change your skiing sub? The only thing I can find is a direct e-mail to their customer service. Is that what you used?

Anyone tried registering a subscription with Maxim then changing your address to a Canadian one?

Reason Im asking is I want to subscribe, its $27.94 for 2 years in Canada but only $17.00 in the US.

So I was thinking of registering then changing my address right away on their login section:
https://secure.palmcoastd.com/pcd/eServ?iServ=MDgxNUIzNTI0NCZpVHlwZT1NQUlO

Thanks,
Matt

that will work, but you can get it much cheaper to free if you look around online (try fat wallet) or wait until something is posted here.

Hi, I have a similar question about buying the Entertainment magazine for $10 a year (US) instead of $73 (Cnd).

I already subscribe to EW and have done so for about 4 years. I was wondering since I'm already in their system, will ordering it with a US address and then trying to change it work in my case? I'd probably go for the 3 year subscription option.

Any feedback much appreciated.

Thanks

I posted the original deal.

I think in terms of stacking your subscriptions, you would have to call the 1-800 number.

Explain that a relative gave you a subscription at another address (not knowing you had (cough cough) moved to Canada and could they please combine the years of both subscriptions.

Don't assume the worst, most of the time the customer service people are very friendly. I once spoke to one that was in Dallas and started asking me lots of questions about Canada.

And if it's your name on the credit card and your name on the subscription, just say it's a relative with the same name.

I don't think they want to lose a customer over a billing issue. And if it doesn't work, tell them you are not satisfied and try to politely talk to a manager.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.
