He's missing a finger.

Apprently he lost it when he did a dunk, now I'm scared

--------------------------------------------------------------------

The Boston Globe checks in with straight-out-of-high-school rookie Gerald Green, who gives an update on his adjustment to the pros and also, oh yeah, is missing a finger on his shooting hand.

[He] shies away from discussing the childhood accident that led doctors to amputate half of his right ring finger. He claims not to remember when it happened -- maybe when he was 8, maybe a couple of years earlier.

''It ain't like stitches," said Green. ''I can tell you that. You don't just get it removed and go about your business."

We're not sure how we feel about this, but we're definitely impressed with Gerald's grasp of understatement. What he doesn't explain is how in all the draft build-up, talk, analysis, over-analysis, and meta-analysis, this was seemingly never mentioned.

There are yet bigger questions that linger, as well: how exactly this happened, who currently has the finger, what they're using it for, and if they've given it a name.

When he was 11, Green was playing in his Houston home, where he had put up a makeshift hoop over a doorway. While wearing his mother's class ring, he caught the ring on a nail that was holding up the basket.
``I was trying to see how high I could jump,'' he said.
Almost a decade later, Green's father, Gerald Sr., still cringes when talking about the accident.
``They couldn't re-attach it,'' the elder Green said. ``So they had to shave off part of his finger. I had nightmares about it.''

Yeah, it's old but thanks for posting pics of the hand. I read about it but never really went looking for visual proof.

On a related note, someone should try to find that pic of Sow making fun of his missing finger when he "embarassed" us the first time.
