EXXON Chairman Gets $400 Million Retirement Package...
http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=1841989&page=1&gma=true&gma=true
I was thinking:
I was thinking, here in my ways. Would this money not have been better spent on giving 1333 poor families in the US to fully purchase a house? Why not pull out 1333 families out of poverty by giving them a helping hand in purchasing a house and making their lives better? Why not help out the poor? Would this money be better invested in one basket (case)?
Well, I think this probably places things in a better perspective... http://nationalpriorities.org/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=182
Glad I am Canadian!

I don't get what being Canadian has to do with anything. Aren't we the ones pumping the oil out of the ground that allows this guy to retire in wealth? Didn't Albertains all just fatten up their wallets with oil-bills?
I'm confused.

dont blame the guy who sells you something becuase he makes a profit.
BTW theres countless execs in canada making in the tens/hundreds of millions /year. And I'd imangin if any of them ran the company when its shares multiplied in value they'd be given healthy thank you pacakges.

I believe Gwynn Morgan of Encana made $3.54M in salary and exercised $10.23M worth of options last year. He recently retired as well so it would be interesting to see what type of package he got.

So can we assume that the OP has never used an oil or oil-based products, then? Because if he has, he has almost certainly contributed to Exxon profits in some way or another.
We can also then assume that the OP lives only the most basic existance, never buying anything more than what is absolutely necessary, as doing any more than that would mean spending money that would be otherwise better off going to help poor families.

What does Canada have to do with this? if you don't like it, don't go to Esso and try to avoid anything with natural gas :cheesygri How about we take your pension and retirement savings and redistribute it to needy people in Africa. If I was a Exxon shareholder, I would be angry about this though

The only problem that I have with the deal is that its' SSOooo disproportionate campared to how much anybody can spend in a life time. ESP when you figure his age.
If he were ME, I'd pay the taxes and give a couple hundred million away. It's silly like Howard Sterns paycheck is, you need to just blow a chunk of money on nothing, otherwise it just sits there.

YES, he could change the lives of thousands of peopl, and not even make a big dent, but does he care enough??

The idea behind this is not the man but the resources ($) that one individual gets for "working". I am sure he worked quite hard. I am sure he and his friends up there are getting the big bucks off the back of the people. Scratching each other's back. Not nice in my view. Not nice at all. It certainly is at their expense.
I am sure that money would be better invested in other 1333 families! I am sure that 1333 families are more important than this one individual who will certainly not take a penny to his grave. We should invest in families that will grow kids to become country builders.
Sheep will always be sheep - work in and out, day in, day out, living out their little miserable lives at minimum wages. We wonder where the middle class is going... once there is no more middle class you will have the poor and the rich... not nice at all... scared to think what US will look like in 20 years from now...
What I am saying, is that money should be dispersed in the communities and improving the lives of ALL the citizens of the country for the benefit of the country. Building a strong foundation is what I am talking about.
...
Ok, now GWB here again, my old self again... We look forward to hearing your vision, so we can more better do our job. That's what I'm telling you. I can't wait to join you in the joy of welcoming neighbors back into neighborhoods, and small businesses up and running, and cutting those ribbons that somebody is creating new jobs.
