Hi,

It's been a while since I last drove my dad's corolla. Today, I took it out for a drive and notice that it made a noisier sound than before when I accelerate normally. It's just not as quiet like when I first drove it, which is probably a month ago. No traumatic event happened to the car. We take it to the toyota check up once every year and I don't want to wait till July to find out what's wrong. Can anybody tell me what's the possible cause of the noisy acceleration.

Btw, noisy not as in mechanically falling apart, just doesn't sound as smooth.

Thanks.

Check your engine oil. Your engine oil level could be low resulting in noisy unlubricated lifters.

At what RPM does it make this noise? 2000-3000 ?

I notice a lot of older Corolla are pretty noisy. We had a 98 and it was noiser than when we first bought it, my mechanic told me that because the car use timing chain, it is a bit louder when it gets old than a car that use timing belt. Whenever I walk by one of those Corolla, I notice the same noise (sound like a truck), so I guess it is probably normal.

There are many possibilities. It could be valve clearance, tranny fluid, motor oil, power steering fluid, exhaust leak, engine mount, etc...

You need a pair of trained ears and possibily some diagnostics to tell what it is.

It's a 2004 corolla. So, which belt does it use?

Yea, it's around 2000 rpm when it's start to get noisy.

Exhaust heat shields are notorious for rattling.
