if your shopping around for car i would try looking at insurance prices at the same time before u make a decision. but 2002 echo...not really sure if its worth it but try searching for some reviews

Not worth it imo..look for a used Protege in the same price range. You'll get a great little car that's alot newer.

I agree with careener, definitely look for a Protege. I was looking through Consumer Reports this weekend and noticed that it's one of their best picks. From the data they collected, it looks quite reliable, and also depreciates faster than most other good small cars. IMO it's also a significantly nicer car than the echo, which I find horribly ugly.

Not worth it.
You can easily find just as new cars with way less milelage for less than $10 grand...

Not worth it but neither is the Protege. Mazda service and cost of parts is $$$.

Wow! New Yaris's are just another $4K out the door.

Not sure of your location, but I just did a search on trader.ca and in Nova Scotia an Echo with that kind of mileage is going for $10-11,000. So it seems about right.

im in mississauga, around oakville
the price is good, compared to other echos of similar characteristics
but can i get something better with $10,000?
how trustworthy are autotrader.ca cars?

I checked the black book value of the car and guessed that the Echo will be a 2-door and auto. Based on that, this is what it indicates:
low: $7,050.00
high: $8,390.00
Keep in mind that the numbers are usually privy to the dealerships and in no way accurately reflects the acutal cost of the car as other factors would have to be taken into consideration (such as condition of car, any accidents, etc... )
I find the values come in handy so that you can use it to your advantage when trying to negotiate. Hope this helps! :)
p.s. Yes, you can definitely get something better, but that all depends on what you like.

how trustworthy are autotrader.ca cars?Auto trader is just a sort of classified list.. similar to Ebay.. it's only as trustworthy as the person you're dealing with.

I totally agree, you don't want the nasty surprise of buying the car at a good price then having to pay $4000 in insurance for the year.

Civics are actually pretty bad for insurance.

I always thought corollas and civics were horrible on insurance because so many people have them and you can easily interchange some of their parts with cars from previous years.

I would have guessed the Echo would have the best insurance rates out of the list so far.

Safety, cost of repair, theft rate etc.. All contribute to insurance rates.
Echo should score good on repar and theft rate but on safety it probably is rated low by my most insurance companies.
