I'm looking through Best Buy and Futureshop etc for speakers for my parent's TV (which doesn't come with good speakers on it's own). I see these "theatre system" packages that come with a DVD player and 5 speakers and stuff, but I can't understand how the speakers are powered? From the DVD player? I really don't need a DVD player though. I just want to hook up 5 speakers to the system, but I can't understand exactly how that's done without a receiver? Is it implied that you also need a receiver? I see the factory direct and cwo has speakers for sale, but will they work on my TV? Any suggestions?

Its an all in one unit. Dvd player+amp+tuner all in one box.

If the tv has rca outs you will need some kind of amp + speakers. or you can get some computer speakers and hook them up.
