That's possible. What mother board do you have? What OS?

Boot into the bios and change USB settings.

Unfortunately the whole USB speed thing is quite a mess:
there's a usb 1.0 (low speed) which is really slow like 1.5mbit/s or 183kb/s
and then there's the usb 1.1 aka FULL speed, which is 12mbit/s or 1.4mb/s
last but not least there's 2.0 which is Highspeed: 480mbit / s or 57mb/s

Good luck.

yes i do and i have Direct X 9.0c.

I found out its F2 to get into the Bios but i couldnt see anything about USB. I am 99% sure its got to be 2.0 because when i first installed this, it didnt pop any thing like that up. But the video was lagging, so I figured that is a sign of a slow connection.

How the heck do I update my USB and why isnt it 2.0?

if its an older laptop then it won't be USB2.0.

You might need to download USB2.0 drivers from Sony. My laptop requires drivers to 'enable' 2.0 speeds/functionality.

On my laptop it has 3 ports, but in the device manager it shows i have 5? wtf? and only one 2.0?

On the phone with sony right now, and they are saying that even if the ports are 2.0, that it wont nessecarily show it as 2.0. That doesnt sound right?

According to Son'y website, your laptop does have USB 2.0--3 of them in fact-- so you are obviously missing drivers for it. I think you have to install your chipset drivers in order to get USB 2.0 working.

ive just finished installing all the stuff off the sony site that i was missing (only 3 things), and uninstalled my usb ports through the Device mgr and it installed back on smoothyl. I will try it again to install this ATI. Hopefully the USB ports are cleared out of any ATI drivers that might have been stuck.

Still same thing.

I GIVE UP, I just dont care anymore in getting this ATI crap to work. Ive already wasted almost 4 hours this weekend trying to get this stuff fixed. But it keeps ghosting the video.

So screw it. ATI can go to hell and im refunding this POS Monday...thank god! I call ATI and all they will say is re-install. I've already done it a thousand times, and in every way possible. Also re-installed every single USB port, my video card drivers, Direct X, so I just dont care anymore.

when you check the "universal serial bus controllers" under Device Manager, do you see any USB "Enhanced" Host Controller?

with the word "enchanced" = USB 2.0

take a screen shot and post it here. I really want to see. It is a easy fix.

I have the suspicion that you are doing something wrong, have someone who knows how to use a computer well look at it for you.

All modern computers support USB 2, it’s just that it’s not enabled half the time. Check the BIOS very carefully, it's not even labled USB half the time.

Also it depends on each BIOS, but usually it’s under integrated peripherals, could be different on yours. Even if you didn’t have USB2 support which you do you would still see a USB entry or even a USB legacy support entry.

Right click "My Computer" --> "Properties" --> "System" --> "Device Manager"

Then you should see a yellow question mark (what you plugged) called Other Devices. Open the branch and right click on the USB device you plugged in. The first option should be "Update Driver"

It should ask you for a file USBEHCI and locate the file manually. Then everything should be upgraded to 2.0

http://www.dynamiclink.nl/htmfiles/rframes/info_sys/info_u/20.htm

There's the link to download the USBEHCI file.

Also try getting Service Pack 2.

I wont be coming back to ATI products ever ever again. Ive wasted too much time on this already and really it should not be this difficult and mind straining to install a freaking tv card. Calm down guy. And it's stupid to not buy ATi because of this one situation when it's clearly YOUR COMPUTER'S FAULT and not ATi's.

Like others said, check out BIOS. And don't complain that Sony doesn't have manuals.

I had this error on my desktop with a usb dvdrw, it was fixed by unplugging the drive (without "safely removing the drive"), and plugged into another port. Afterwards my computer detected stop giving me the plug into high speed error.

Some USB 2.0 needs to be enabled from the BIOS, check that too and I'd start by removing all USB from devices and allowing windows to reinstall the drivers.

Alright.....I just called ATI once again and they said the best thing to do is first try it on another computer. But Im unable to do that since I only have one and eh...that sucks. That way I can find out if its the card that is perhaps defective or my computer.

He also mentioned it could be either my USB ports or the video card. But I doubt its the video card, and I told him that its the tv tuner that processes the video...and then the moron went on to lecture me for 5mins about how it could be the video card blah blah blah.... What a joke tech support they have, blame everything on the customer.

So now I have to call Sony back and ask them how to enable 2.0, and the only way I can think of is that the setting would be in the BIOS. But guess what, there is no freaking option for this in the BIOS.

I sure hope my USB ports arent faulty.

Welcome to the exciting life of ATI drivers. Take my advice and take back the ATI product and buy a Hauppauge instead. It'll save you a ton of time and headaches. I personally have an ATI TV-Wonder sitting on my shelf that I replaced with a Hauppauge and I've never looked back. After having had the TV wonder and two previous All-in-wonders along with other ATI video cards, I am quite familiar with their shoddy driver support. It's too bad because they make some nice products on paper, but once you start updating drivers etc., you're playing russian roulette with the stability of your system.
