I'm looking at the Acer TM8204WLMI Core Duo T2500 laptop. Found it cheap somewhere. What are your comments on this? Good laptop? Bad laptop? Why?
Thanks for all your suggestions.

AFAIK, Acer's build quality is just so-so.

Features are good for the price.

I was going to grab one of these after Dell pulled the 7800 from the 9400. Specs seem great on this machine but I've heard about issues regarding the screen quality, so I'll pass until I hear lots of talk of improvements with later revisions.
I'm now considering a Macbook Pro, or maybe the 9400 again if the offer a better video card in the next few months.

Thanks guy. Well. IMO, I think $900 for these specs is good. And if need be, I can buy an LCD for home for about $300.

And where can you get a 8204 for $900? Is it a "hook up" or a used model? I mean for $900 I'd get one as well even with the not so great screen.

No. He says he got 35 of them at some promotion. Says they're new. It's close to where I live, so I'm more open to this deal.

Good luck with that. This is very likely a scam. Did you, by any chance, find this on Craigslist, alongside the $1000 MacBook Pro, or fully specced out T42? All the power to you if this is for real, but the seller is either a scammer, stupid, or very charitable.
I bet you they're NIB, but the box is sealed, and you can't open them to check them out. Like I said, be very very careful here. Meanwhile, if you get two, I'll buy off of you for a straight cost + $200. If it's legit . . .

Those 3mark results look pretty low for a 7800 considering I'm getting more out of my 6800Go...
Anyway, the higher end Acer models are not too bad, comparable to Dells I would say.

if you can get them from someone for 900 each, go take out a loan from the bank, and buy all 35
it'll be the easiest 15000 you've ever made

Likewise I'll buy 10 at 1k today at that price assuming they're as described. BTW, hate to break this to you but it is a SCAM. No one would be foolish enough to let go of this laptop for $900.

You can swap out the graphics on a 9400 for a 7800 btw. I know it's more hassle but something to keep in mind.

We special ordered one of these at work for someone and I was quite impressed. Camera seemed to be pretty decent and the quality was alright. Definitely worth it for the $900-1000 range, we sold it for a lot more than that.

We've come to a deal, and he's accepting split payment, so puts a little less risk on me. For $300 up front, I would think it's a justified risk.

Do think twice and make sure the laptop is in working condition, the warranty is valid and it's not a stolen item. The scammer will be more than satisfied with free $300. lol.
But seriously if you do get the laptop for 900, that's a super hot deal, I would jump on it anytime.

I'm sure they will eventually as the 9300 had the 7800 as an upgrade option but how soon?? Who knows. They're pretty slow at building up their new model lineup.

You haven;t been very specific here. Is he shipping the laptop to you? Is he meeting you late at night in some dark alley? I would run from this deal as fast as you can. He's selling at about 50% of retail. Fishy indeed.

Shipping from Torino, Italy.
Looked up his name. Got some more info on him. Seems like he owns a business or something. Also figured out he was selling in USD. Doesn't make that much of a difference though with the currency rate right now.

this acer can EASILY sell for 900 EURO...that's close to $1300 CAD; there's no reason for him to sell it to canada for 900CAD; heck, even if he was to ship to canada, you're looking at pretty hefty duties
even with split payment, your $300 is likely a loss...i mean, look at it from his perspective
if he ships, he gets $300, and no guarantee of further payment. Lets say he ships, and you say you never receive it. Would you ship it for $300 payment?

Perhaps there is some truth in what you guys are saying. He's now demanding $500USD up front, and he wants me to pay through Western Union, which I checked, and to send $900CAD, it'll cost about $74. He won't accept EMT. Still haven't sent anything yet, so perhaps time to question him some more.

i used to get replies
about how you need to send money.in POUNDS (or australian dollars or WHATEVER)..through a 'company' (escrow) that holds your money / holds the product.and exchanges it..etc.
I think i've msg'd them enuf times.they don't even bother to reply to mine cuz they KNOW i know its a scam ( bet its just the same ppl..everytime)

Scam with a capital S-C-A-M dood.
Don't go along with this.
Too good to be true generally is.
Plus, Western Union is (often) trademark scammer.
