I just found out that my video card supports dvi so I made use of it by connecting my vga cable from monitor to pc via a dvi connection port. But was wondering will this make any difference in terms of video performance. Or is DVI only used when one has two monitors.

it's not a significant improvement, but if your monitor has both DVI and VGA outputs, use DVI cable to DVI port on your Video Card.

it sounds like you are using VGA from your monitor to DVI on your video card using a convertor. there is no point in doing this. you are better off going from your VGA montitor to the VGA port on your video card.
