so after you get your G2 license, do you have to be added to your parent's insurance plan for you to be able to drive their car alone? or are you only allowed to drive their car if someone with a full g license is with you as with a g1 license?
b/c, if you have a g2, and u drive some1 else's car, it's not like you have insurance for that car, so wouldn't it be the same as if u were driving your parent's car? i mean, you keep your insurance papers in the car, not with you anyways right?
kinda confused here...could some1 clear this up for me.

you can drive the car by yourself, but you need your own insurance.

Ok so say person A has a g2 and has his own insurance, and his friend is person B. Person B's car has insurance on it also. Can person A drive person B's car? they both have seperate insurances but do have insurance none the less.

I believe G2 licence can rent a car. So you can drive any car alone as long as the car has insurance and your name (driver lic #) is not on the excluded list.
You could drive your parents car and if you get in accident (I wish that never happen) as long as your parents do not say you steal the car then you are covered.
Same thing apply to other people car. Just be caution on 1 thing, insurance claim sticks with the policy holder. If you got an accident (your fault) while driving your friend's car. Police will issue a ticket to you (driver) but the claim and insurance cost will go to your friend. And your friend may need to suffer for higher insurance rate for the next few years.
However, if you drive your parents car everyday or regular. It is always a good idea to get your own insurance on their plan (if you live with them, same address on your driver lic). Depends on your family situation, it could be 'occasional driver' or 'second driver'. That way you start 'earning' stars. Once you have safe records for certain years (6 stars?) then your own insurance will become very affordable.

k, so i CAN drive the car, albeit i still need to get insurance to build my own driving record.
in the even that i do get into an accident, my dad said it's probably better if he takes the claim instead of me, reason that he's an experienced driver and while his rates might spike due to an accident, it certainly won't spike as much as mine when i have my own car and have to pay the full cost. does this seem like a reasonable argument?

You can drive the car with consent. If you do get in to an accident it'll be your parent's insurance that covers you. However it won't look good for you towards insurance companies. It'll look like to them you drove around without insurance, which you technically don't have. Just add yourself to your parents policy as a second driver and don't do anything stupid on the road.
Thinking of being able to get my own car with low insurance for years of good driving is what stops me from paying attention to that car in the right lane revving at me.
