Hi, everyone.
Just wondering if anyone knows a garage or somewhere i can get my rotors machined. I find my brakes pulsing when i am getting off the hwy, mostly means worped rotors. So i want to take them off my car and bring them to a place to get them machined for a good price. Any place?

Partsource did ours (but they wont if theyre in really bad shape). Doubt it was more than $10. ea.

if you have a lot of miles on your rotors.. eg. >100,000km then it might be cheaper in the long run to replace them with new ones, i found that out the hard way after getting my cars rotors machined last year and noticing the same problem less than a year later, now i have to get new pads, rotors and shoes replaced since my rotors were already warped beyond being repairable.

I'd say it makes more sense to buy a new better one. Its not that much more expensive than machining it.

would really like to know where I can get some plain rotor for cheap.
$15x4 = $60 for four if turning the rotors
if a place have them new for under $100, it will be nice.

There are plenty of Made in China products for that great price!!!!
but uhhh.....I would rather machine a quality product then buying a cheap brand new product. On a serious note.....I've heard people using Napa rotors ($30-40) with pretty good results. Stay away from the super cheap stuff..they tend to warp easier due to the cheapo material.

anywhere else that does this for a cheap price????
i have about 40,000km on a set of OEM rotors, is it worth to machine

ALL brake rotors has OEM specs on them. The thickness of the rotor. There is NO NEED to buy a new rotor if the rotor can be machined again. After machining the rotors it will work just like new. If it is badly warped you can machine them 2 or 3 times...that should do the job. If you DO bring it to PARTSSOURCE, make sure they KNOW what they are doing. If they machine the rotors and the thickness is out of specs it will warp your rotor.

Does anyone know a place other then partsourse that does take rotors them self and machine them. Cause i am no sure if the people at partsource know what they are doing and maybe even mess my rotors up.

all Rotors are made to OEM specs but cheaper rotors are manufactured poorly and tend to warp. machining doesnt solve this problem either.

Crappy tires rotors are pretty cheap. There's this place i deal with called Metro Auto Parts in markham. Its at Hwy 7/Kennedy where the ministry for trasnsportion is. Just another heads up. There are 2 types of brake lathes. On car and off car. I would suggest going to an on car brake lathe because if your car's old theres doom to be more things warped than just rotors...lets say hub..so new/machined rotors on an warp hub is BAD match. On car brake lathes will compensate for that. Off car ones you would have to grind off all the rust from both sides of the rotors and on the hub to get BEST possible reduction of any warpage.
One more...haah i'm a tech.
If you feel like you have to press your brake pedal alot to get good braking power it might be your REAR BRAKES (only drum style) NOT DISC (so not 4 wheel disc brakes), ALL disc brakes are self adjusting. Drums you can adjust and service them to how much travel you want on your brake pedal. When customers complaint about brakes i will first look at the brake fluid resorvior to see if its low, if low then i check the FRONT disc brakes. If the front pads look good i would inspect/recommend a rear brake service (only rear drums). Rear disc brakes will be a different story.
Rear Brake service mostly includes:
Sanding down the brake shoes
Clean and lube all springs/retainers/brake drum assembly
adjusting the brake shoes
and last sand down the rust inside the drum

When i did the brakes on my insight about a year or so ago, the Cost from a private shop to machine the rotors was $20 and brand new ones were $30 So I just bought the new ones

I think it's difficult to screw it up - the machine just everything for them

Buy new ones.
Machining rotors are a bad idea, and shops only do it before they make more money doing that and selling u new ones. (Labour)
When u machine it your are removing metal, making it thinner and more likely to warp.
At my shop, we never machine rotors anymore, bcus the customers always come by 2 weeks later with the same prob.

I'd would just pay the extra $20 and buy new roators,, your rotors are warped, plus your break pades will be warped also, you will need to replaces both rotors and brake pads to get rid of that pulsing braking..
