I've got $200 to spend on memory. I can either spend it on my system (P4P800se) or my son's (A7N8X-D). My son's ram crapped out.

I prefer to get something locally that I can return easly if there's a problem. I see FS has Kingston value ram onsale, how would that compare with my basic Crucial ram? Oh, I'm looking for 1gb (512x2).

You might be able to get a 512mb stick of this for $50 bucks where you live:

Value brand ram from Corsair or OCZ I would think is better than kingston ram.

Might help if you where more specific with your location.

Elsewise a good 1 gig kit of Ocz Cas 2.5 value series should run you around $110-120 & is a great value for better ram then kingston. Kingston/viking use to be the best ya could get .. but those days are gone .. Mushkin, Corsair & Ocz are the best brand named ones ya can buy for ram now ..

I always buy Samsung chips from NCIX.. works great for me. Can't beat that price either.

It was Mushkin that are giving me errors. Sending them back for replacement. I might consider getting ram from NCIX, Samsung eh?

I like them and they're very affordable.

Yep.

Hey, how's that Samsung compare with the Crucial? NCIX is selling that for $39 as well, and it will be a perfect match for my existing Cruicial if I decide to put it on one machine.

Crucial 512MB for $39? Sounds like a pretty good deal.

I'd pick Crucial over Samsung for the same price.. but I've never seen such a thing.

I went with the Crucial from NCIX. Hope I didn't make a mistake buying from NCIX again, last time (four years ago) they sent me items that were not properly packed (loose hard drives in a box). A NCIX manager assured us in the forums that they've fixed those "shipping problems", I guess we'll find out. I'll report back.

That's reassuring. Unforuntetly, there have been people here who have reported otherwise. My issue was over four years ago. If it comes well packaged, all is forgiven and I'll be doing a lot more business with them.

Hold on ... The 'cheap(er)' Crucial that you are referring to does NOT use Micron (Crucial) chips. It's actually Crucial *Rendition* brand. Micron bought Rendition many years ago. And now they use its name for the low(er)-end memory line.

Damn! It has the same part number as my crucial. I just went to their Customer Care area to see about cancelling, and nothing comes up. Can anyone go to their "answers" page?

Doe your Crucial stick has Micron chips (MT = Micron Technologies) ? Maybe yours is a Rendition as well ?

Micron chip looks something like this ...

I can't check, they're covered over with a heat sink. But they do have the same part number (CT6464Z40B). You'd think if they had the same part number, they'd have the same chips. Can I expect they'd perform the same anyway and get along with my existing memory? I sent them a message to cancel if they can, I guess if not, I'll test them then stick them on my kids computer and forget about it.

Kingston totally sucks.. They dont let Canadians RMA through the usual online RMA. They totally make you jump through hoops; you gotta call a TOLL number, then mail the RAM to the USA VIA Registered Mail, and it sure isn't cheap.

I hate them, I'd never buy them again

That's some good stuff. I bought it a couple years ago when it was over $200 and it's still working great today. It's amazing how cheap that stuff is now.

Yes, that's what i would recommend also if you need 1GB dual channel. Works great with our Dimension 3000. Unless you can buy cheaper locally.
