Ok. I got a speeding ticket today. It is over 15km/h in 100km.h zone. The cop said that i was driving at 140+km/h. Am i ? My ticket is like $50.
I cant remeber how fast did i drive.
Should I just pay for this ticket or fight for it ? I am already paying the preium for my car insurance. Or paying few hundreds to fight the trcket ?

That is an interesting question...
How do we know how fast you were driving other than yourself?

If you were doing 140, pay it. I believe <20 over is no points. Not worth fighting. You got lucky. Usually your clocked speed is written somewhere on the ticket.
If you were actually doing 115, appeal it. That's retarded.

15-30 km over is actually 3 points in Ontario.
If you were going 41+ over, that's 5 points.
The office likely gave you a break for going 30-40km over and put you in a lower offense category.
Your options:
(1) go to court. You may very well have the charge dismissed (if you're in the GTA, it's almost 50% odds that the office won't show up). However, you may also be convicted of going the original 40km over and get a bigger fine.
(2) request a "first attendance" appointment with the prosecutor and try to have your fine further reduced. This is your safest bet, but at the very best you'll likely get off with no points (but still with a conviction).
(3) pay the ticket and swallow the insurance increase -- not really an option if you're in Ontario.

Well, if there are points, then yeah, appeal it up the wazoo.

Points do not affect insurance, only convictions. Common misconception.

your wrong.

its 16-29 km/h = 3 points
with a ticket of 15km/h the officer does not wish to see you in court. $50 dollar for a speeding ticket is a slap on the hands, just pay for it.

Great info !
Sorry to hear you already have a high insurance rate, so in the future, try not to speed,... I know, that's not saying much, but keep it below 10 km/hr over the limit.

Then it is likely you have points on your record. I was done for 17 over the speedlimit but only a $40 fine. Had I paid the fine I would be admitting guilt and in receipt of 3 demerit points.
Never ever trust what the copper selects to tell you on the side of the road. Look at the ticket, check the infraction/recorded speed then go fight it if it's in the 15kmph+ range.
