As an alternative you may want to consider to fly out of Buffalo. I've built packages twice in the past year where it has cost me under $400Cdn and I stayed at Aladdin one trip and Hard Rock Hotel the other trip. Both were 4 days, 3 nights. Don't forget the taxes out of Pearson are horrendous, but keep in mind you have to pay for parking/gas or a ride to Buffalo.

Those hotels will cost you over a 'Ben Franklin' a night. (Wynn may cost you around $200US a night).

There are some threads on Vegas on the "Travel" forum section that you may find imformative "OP".

I thought the rooms at the Alladin were excellent. This was two or three years ago though. I'd suggest flying out of Buffalo as well. You can save around $150/person on the flight if it is out of Buffalo. You can get a coupon at the Buffalo airport website for parking for $38 USD for a week.

i mean... the aladdin hotel rooms are not bad..
their facilities are bad...

the casino is small compared to other hotels (renovation)
mall stores are expensive (there are several outlets at vegas)
if you want to buy designer brand stuff, you would go to the stores in the Bellagio hotel
no buffet like bellagio, or paris
no night shows

Canadian travel taxes kill the deal. I just finished booking an april LV vacation for two. Flying out of detroit , 4 nights@ the Orleans incl. airport shuttle to hotel & taxes $631.20 USD ... yes thats for 2. Someone in the travel forum graciously posted this link usairwaysvacations.com (http://www.usairwaysvacations.com). Prior to usng this site I was trying to find a deal on a room and then trying to match a discount flight to match the dates of the room sale. Strangely enough, cheap flights and room deals never seemed to coincide. The above link was definately the best price I found ( they do have a nice option that searches for the lowest price within a 3 day range of your desired departure). If you are flexible when you want to go I would suggest plugging in a few dates. Flights and hotel prices vary alot from one day to the next. Midweek flights and hotel rates tend to be cheapest. BTW the Excalibur has $39 rooms booked before APR. 3 and the MGM has $69 rooms if you are booking flight and hotel seperately.

Thanks for the clarification.

You forgot to mention that the sports book (@ the Aladdin) is pretty small also.

So you are telling the Aladdin "Spice Market Buffet" is closed?

(PS The casino area at the Paris casino is also not that big - at least with respect to table games - I am not a slots person).

You want expensive?

Try shopping in the Wynn casino - I saw a regular coffee mug that cost over $30US!

(mind you it had the Ferrari trademark on it - but at that price you would think it would at least have a picture of the car).

As for suggestions on what to do for those on a budget - there are a number of the "free shows" at night outside (ie Bellegio water fountains or Downtown Vegas Light Show or Treasure Island show)

Another secret for getting a cheap(er) hotel room.
Call, to get rates. Then call back in 10 minutes, they will usually offer you lower rate than you got.
Worked well with MGM and Paris.
Just remember, they want you to stay in thier hotel, becuase you gamle in thier casino. So whatever they can do to lure you in.

can you get a better place for 49/nite? the location of aladdin is good, rooms are nice.

mall stores are mid tier (meaning less expensive than ones at bellagio/wynn) but the desert passage mall is bigger than most other casinos. NOT TO MENTION THERE ARE MORE THAN 130 STORES

you seem to think you are trapped in the hotel/casino you stay at??

aladdin's spice market buffet is number one in vegas as voted serveral times

http://www.aladdincasino.com/menus/BuffMenu.pdf

i enjoyed aladdin's buffet much more than bellagio's in terms of quality and tastiness. not to mention desert was great

a similar class of hotel like aladdin near its location will cost at least twice as much per nite.

Stayed at Aladdin earlier this month on the $59 a nite plan.
Great room, great location and great food.
Close to Bellagio, Paris & Ballys for the gamblers.

Buffet is OPEN and is rated as one top three in Vegas and not expensive.
(Bfast is $7, lunch is $9 with the 2 for 1 coupon you get on check-in)

Good deals on meals at Desert Passage restaurants.
$18.88 lunch special at Commander's Palace
with up to 4 martinis for 25 cents each of your choice
$2.95 for bfast at the Mexican rest.

Casino and exterior are under renovation, but not a problem.

Thanks for the heads up. The renovations would explain the low room prices. I would still say this is a great deal because you still get a nice room in a pretty new hotel that is centrally located on the strip. You just have to plan on going to other casinos to gamble, eat, etc.

you dont need to eat elsewhere...the buffet is open as are all the great restaurants in the mall.

commander's palace is very good and reasonable priced (like US 50/person)

I found this South Coast Casino Resort, which is supposed to be quite new (open in Dec 2005) and is now sold at USD$56/night.

They've got free shuttle to go to airport and go to the strip. (Do you know if they allow you to carry some luggages too on the shuttle ot the strip?)

Most importantly, they've got 42" plasma TV in EACH of their rooms!

I would like some advice!!

For the Aladdin, you get them when you check-in.

RE: Southcoast:
It is NEW, but quite far out.
Count on lots of wait time & travel time in the shuttle to & from the strip.

For a $3 a nite diff (not counting the buffet coupons) and the Bellagio fountains out your window I know where I'd rather stay.

I've stayed at this hotel last year when it was still the SunCoast Casino Resort. For the money you save, I would stay on the strip next time. The shuttlebus is a 30 min ride and is not 24 hours. If you stay out past midnight, you have to taxi it back to the hotel which will be another 40-50$.

It's all about location location location and the strip is where you want to be.

Forget it. The coupons aren't worth the trouble. The ones for the strip are for junkie restaurants and places you don't want go. Most of the real coupons are from places off the Strip trying to lure you away with cheap steak dinners. But it's a pain to go there, so you never do.

Anyway, coupons float around LV like confetti. All those deals you see on the web are handed out all over town. No need to worry about finding them before you arrive.

Actually there are "passes" that you can buy from air canada before april 8. so for example, i purchased a 4 day western pass and i can only travel on tuesday, wednesday, thursday and saturday and I can only travel between the city pairs. my total came up to $684 ( that was air + gst) and I am allowed 4 flight passes or 2 city pairs. so I am planning a trip from Edmonton to Vegas and then a trip from Edmonton to LA...and all for $684..only bad thing is that I have to finish travel by June 6

When I searched with "SLM041", the returns for rooms in June are mostly $200!!! "SLM044" is only for April.

Anyone has any good rates/recommendations for June???

I've stayed at this hotel last year when it was still the SunCoast Casino Resort. For the money you save, I would stay on the strip next time. The shuttlebus is a 30 min ride and is not 24 hours. If you stay out past midnight, you have to taxi it back to the hotel which will be another 40-50$.

It's all about location location location and the strip is where you want to be.

um.... southcoast is A BRAND NEW, NEWLY BUILT CASINO/HOTEL that just opened for the first time ever on Dec. 22, 2005. the suncoast still exists.

southcoast and suncoast are two different placesa

if you really care that much about saving money... you wouldn't want to go to vegas..
las vegas is bascially a place to waste money

so i think that if anyone wants to go there, just get the best stuff from there and relax..

$49 dollars / night or $100 dollars / night is nothing compared to the money you use to gamble... so why not the best?

by the way.. when i stayed at aladdin, i got upgraded to deluexe room with my spg card.

that sounds too easy. ;) The rooms are deluxe, resort, resort vista, strip suite, and panaroma suite. if you got upgraded, you would have carpeted bathrooms, his and her sinks or more. it sounds like they told you they upgraded you when they really didnt.

btw, which floor did you get and how much was it per night?

everybody goes on vacation to "spend" money one way or another, be it to mexico, cruise, vegas etc... that doesnt mean just because people are not going to a place to work, they would stop caring about getting good bang for the buck

true, true, true. it's just like getting ripped off when taking the tunnel route. sure, in the big scheme of things it's not a lot of money but getting most would rather "spend" or give their money to someone else, whether they give it to the casino, fair and square or somewhere else.

vegas has a lot of attractions, decadents, and deals. just because you go to vegas doesn't mean you're wasting your money. besides, where else can you go and have a good steak dinner for under $5?

people who have been to the aladdin recently have said it is still a hotel with very good rooms, great location with the best buffet, biggest hotel mall in vegas. ;) not to mention the highly regarded commander's palace and PF Chang's bistro at aladdin's at aladdin as well.

and spending more money in this case doesnt mean getting any more out of it  by your reasoning, people who goto vegas should stay at the most expensive room at the wynn only or not go

you know nothing of reasons why people stay at the wide variety of hotels in vegas and use words like "recommended"

moreover, in your original post, you say aladdin's mid tier shops in desert pasage is "expensive" when it clearly is not in vegas yet here you spew stuff about it doesnt matter to spend more money on vacation. so which is it.

then you go make up stories about aladdin not having buffet when it's the number 1 buffet in vegas.

I can be a real prick when it comes to critiquing things and if it's worthy, I'll post my comments about the Aladdin, but from what others (majority) have said and written, Aladdin is a really nice and good hotel. Clearly it's not the Bellagio but you're not paying for the Bellagio either.

IMO, based on my experience only -- book for flight tickets now if you are planning to go this summer. Pick a decent room deal that is currently available, and then cancel that room deal when you come across better deals down the road. (Of course, you have to confirm and check for cancellation policy!)

for the SLM codes for MGM, do you really need to have a Players Club card (as noted in the fine print when on the booking page)? Thanks

I am headed to the MGM tomorrow for 3 nights I booked online under the SLM042 code I got off the Fat Wallet thread. I am just going to go and signup for the card at the players card desk first before I check in. There is nothing on the code that says you need to have an established history so I am assuming it shouldn't be a problem but I will let you know.

I am also going to exploit my best friends huge knockers and low cut shirt (her idea not mine) with the $20.00 front desk tipping thing to see if we can get upgraded to something nicer. :P

Lets just hope we don't pick the one male front desk clerk that is gay. :-0

Aladdin is the worst place to gamble on the strip. Stay there, but gamble elsewhere. Lower end casino's like the Golden Nugget, casino's with great rules like Bellagio or local casino's are the best. Do your research before gambling....but stay away from Aladdin (worst rules, worst odds). Don't believe me.....go ahead, pay their light bills.

An update for anyone still looking:

I have an Amex and my wife has a card on my account. The last few digits are different on the card. The Westjet promo agent let me book one round trip to Vegas on each card, and gave me the $75 off each, without me having to call back. So the Toronto to Vegas return, all taxes and fees in came to $290 CAD each for a weekend in June.

As for hotels, I went with Caesar's Palace as it is my wife's first trip there. I got a good deal, but since most here are looking for bargain basement, I won't bore you with the details (message me if you want them).

However, while I was looking for deals on Hotwire, I came accross a price for the Golden Nugget of $178 USD (all in) for three nights over a weekend and including an upgraded rental car (grand am) for the three days. At the current exchange, this is about $200 CAD for two people. The Nugget is a 4 star hotel. The only thing that holds it back is that it is located in the downtown area, not out on the strip. There is still lots to see and you are literally a 5 minute drive from the strip.

Tip: When I was there in the fall, the Flamingo still had a free parking garage, so you can stay off the strip and drive to the heart of the strip.

Actually many people like me don't really care where they stay, since all you're really doing is sleeping there at night. Besides the time I spend sleeping (and maybe some other activities ;) in the room, I'm not spending any additional time there. I'm in Vegas to have fun checking attractions and shows outside my room, not in my room.

There are a number of ways to see the canyon. If you don't mind doing some research online, I think the best bet is to get a trip with a rental car and then drive yourself. FYI - The Hoover Dam and Lake Mead are only about 35-40 minutes drive from the Strip. If you want to drive up along the Canyon, plan a day though.

All the good coupons such as 2 for 1 are the ones at decent casions you would buy in a booklet, say on Amazon called American Casino Guide. The Aladdin had 2 for 1 breakfast coupons only because we stayed there and that was part of the promo.

Other than that, you may get few dollars off coupons from the hotel (we were offered $5.00 off Aladdin coupons one morning). Orleans has a good budget priced buffet but it's closer to the airport.

I just came back from Vegas. Very cool. Very HOT. New Frontier gets like a 2.5/5 from me. And thats only cause they were really cheap.

Make sure you catch the free outdoor shows in front of the hotels, like the Bellagio fountains and the Sirens of ti at Treasure Island. Check for time once you get there, but I know the fountains come on every hour, and the first ti show comes on at 7. But if its windy at all dont bother waiting for the ti one, cause they will cancel cause of high wind.

I wonder if Vegas is his best option or if he can find an All-inclusive (for hotel and food only) in the Caribbean???

Anyone got any opinions/suggestions?????

I stayed here for 4 nights the first week in May under the same promo just under the Manhattan Nights name.

I paid 104 a night plus tax (I book at 114 a night, but the rate on the site for my nights went down, so I phoned the 1-800 number and got my rate changed with no problem)

When I book in the comments box I asked for some requests. Higher floor, away from the coaster, N/S, two queens (Your room will be bigger then asking for 1 king, and no need for a strip view(If you really want a view of the strip you will pay more 10-20 a night)

Here is what kind of room I got

On the 36th a N/S floor in the Empire Tower with only 8 rooms on my floor. 10 floors above the highest point of the coaster and I could only hear the coaster when I listened for it. No Smoke smell in my room at all. 2 queens (400 sq feet a normal size hotel room with an in room safe )and a view of the Monte Carlo but I could see the Paris tower and TI from my room. But the windows are not made for viewing. So if you like big windows don't stay here. I like NYNY's Casino better 2 not for the odds but b/c it's brighter then most of the dark and smokey ones in the other hotels and it has a higher ceiling. But that is just me.

Hope my review helps you. I was happy with my stay.

For those of you looking for cheap food, there are a few places of note.

1) Ellis Island: This is the casino that is next to the Super 8 Motel on Koval Lane and just behind Bally's to the east. You should be able to see it from the monorail or if you are headed up north on Koval Lane.

They've got some pretty cheap and decent food.

Here is the menu:

http://www.ellisislandcasino.com/EImenu.pdf

I feel like I am ripping them off every time I eat here. Especially worth mentioning is the $1.95 breakfast special served from around 11pm to 6am. This is a great late night meal for those of you who have late flights into Vegas. I've never had a flight arrive into Mccarran earlier than 10pm and by the time you get your luggage and rental car, you get hungry again so this is usually the first place I hit. They also have an off of the menu $4.95 steak special that is served with garlic green beans, baked potato, garlic bread, and soup or salad. I'm usually not hungry until noon the next day when I have this.

2) Capriotti's: This is a sub/sandwich place that has massive subs. For $11, you can get a 20 inch sub that is stuffed to the max. This is perfect for sharing. Did I mention that it was big?!! Really, it's very large!!

menu: http://www.capriottis.com/menu.htm

3) Golden Gate Hotel: They have their famous 99 cent shrimp cocktail here. You can grab a few of these to fill you up if you happen to be downtown.

4) Makino: While not cheap as compared to the items listed above, this is an all you can eat Japanese Restaurant. It's not as good as the stuff we get here in Vancouver, but it's good compared to most all you can eat Japanese served in the USA. It's about $24 per person for dinner. There are 2 locations now: one at the Las Vegas Premium Outlets near downtown and another somewhere on Decatur at the corner of Flamingo. I like it better than Todai (located at the Desert Passage Mall, Aladdin).

5) Orleans buffet and Main Street Station Buffet: both are good value for the money and under $14 per person for the regular non theme night buffets. I prefer the $16 per person Main Street Station seafood buffet on Friday nights.

6) Rio Carnival World Buffet: There is a $5 off coupon right now good til the end of June for my wife's favorite buffet found here (http://www.harrahs.com/our_casinos/rlv/exhilaration/offer4.html). Also look for this coupon in one of the free tourist magazines (eg: What's On, Showbiz, etc) at your hotel. It's also usable for $10 off per person at the Village Seafodd Buffet at the Rio but I believe the quality of that buffet is not worth the steep price of $35 per person before coupon. It used to be better and cheaper about 6 years ago. Now, not really worth it.

7) In and Out: This is a California burger joint that has locations in a few surrounding states. Relatively cheap and filling. I like my cheseburger done 'animal style'.

They have a website here (http://www.in-n-out.com/secretmenu.asp)

The In and Out that I frequent the most often is just west of the strip on Industrial near the I-15 freeway. If you are on Tropicana, drive east and turn right on Industrial. You can't miss it.

8) Lotus of Siam: This is a Thai restaurant that serves up some pretty good food as long as you order it from the regular menu. They have a lunch buffet (m-f) that caters to mostly westernized palates, but if you do go, order off of the regular menu if you want more traditional fare. This place is in a multicultural/Korean strip mall (Commercal Center?) just east of the strip on Sahara. For those of you in the GVRD, the prices are comparable to Thai house but in US dollars.

adwoodw, good tips. however, you forget to mention that places like Orleans, Golden Gate, and Main Street are off the main strip and you will need to rent a car, take a cab or one of the shuttles (which will take about 30+ minutes) to get to.

just another note. Ellis Island can be very smoky. if you arrive after 11PM then they typically sit you in a smoking area. i've been there almost every day recently and that's what most people usually complain about, the smoke. YMMV. The steaks are actually quite good considering the price. This is what Vegas USED to be like.

Yes, you may need to arrange some means of transportation to get to these places though. I've always rented a car, so I just get in and go. :cheesygri

To get to the Orleans, there is a shuttle from the Barbary Coast Hotel on the Strip. You can also check out the Palms, Gold Coast and the Rio while you are in that area. You could also take the 202 bus for $1.25 (or 2 tokens) each way per person. You can also buy tokens from the local transit authority for some discounted rates: 40 tokens for $20.

If you need to head downtown, there is no need for a cab. Just take the bus on the Strip that goes up and down (the deuce-lv strip). It's $2 (or 4 tokens) per person each way on the Strip

Pavel

Unless you have lots of time on your hands, I don't recommend taking the bus (public transportation) to the Orleans. Those busses are slow but are really convenient. You're better off taking those free shuttles or renting a car. I asked one bus driver how long it took to get to Fremont from the strip, he said 30 minutes if we left now, so we did. It took us 60 and the traffic wasnt unusual, he just stopped at every stop.

Hopped on the deuce in front of the Aladdin. This was near the last day and the strip wasn't any more congested with cars than usual.

The last time I took a bus there, it was still the 301 Strip bus and it took me about 40 minutes on a Fri afternoon from around the same mid strip area. They used to have a schedule for that route but it seems as though they can never keep to it. That's why I always rent a car for my own convenience.

Sometimes, cabs aren't that much better, especially after shows, since the line up can be quite long. I once waited almost an hour in line after 'O' at Bellagio for a cab ride back to Mandalay Bay. That was just nuts!!

I would like to reiterate to keep checking back on your hotel rates after you've made your reservation. Assuming, that your reservation is refundable, rates can still fluctuate. I booked 2 rooms at NY NY last month through their online package. Since then, the rates during the period of our stay have dropped...the most recent one being quite significant (i.e. US$300 total cheaper). I simply called up their reservations centre and they adjusted the rates accordingly. Currently, their promotion is called Manhattan Nights (http://www.nynyhotelcasino.com/pages/promo_main_new.aspx). Also, even though their calendar shows some dates that say No Arrivals, I still managed to make a reservation to arrive on that particular day (June 3). You just don't get the promotional rate.

I would definitely go for Excalibur... as it's also on the "better side" of the strip. Tropicana is really really old and even the shops inside are old and the walls are old. Excalibur is connected by the tram to Luxor and Mandalay Bay and there're much much better shops inside, like the $10 fashion store... It is rated higher. (In fact, Tropicana is ranked so low that I don't post their deals... they're always always $29/$39 per night.) :D

BTW, I updated the post with some good deals on Luxor, Excalibur and Monte Carlo today... (July 26,06)

Just got back from weekend at the Bellagio. We went for our 20th anniversary! Just a warning for anyone planning to stay at this hotel is to make sure you stay in the tower closest to the casino. The south tower has construction going on outside ie. jackhammering that stops around 2AM and starts again at 6AM. Wow it was hot, around 43 C. Great shopping at the premium outlet and Las vegas outlet. Picked up a Callaway shirt that was regular $178 and I got it for $15. after I used the 25% coupon I printed from
http://www.premiumoutlets.com/. Also if you like to golf and don't want to take your clubs theres a coupon there that will get you rental clubs for free and 15% of a round at Silverstone Golf Club. (same site but look under online coupons and deals around town). We went to see Mamma Mia and Mystere. Both good shows and you can get Mamma mia at 1/2 price at tix for tonight.
Great trip overall!

the outdoor pool, however, was nice.

Forget the Tropicana...at all costs. Stay at the Orleans instead if you're looking for a decent budget hotel.

Agreed. Orleans is an excellent hotel considering the price. The only thing wrong about it is that it's not on the Strip but that shouldn't be too much of a problem if you have a car. :(

The buffet is quite good there as well.

Stay away from Circus Circus, especially "Circus Circus Manor".

My girlfriend still won't let me hear the end of that place >:(

The Main Casino Tower and the West Tower at CC aren't too bad at all. The Manor is what you want to avoid.

Though you may consider renting a car since you really fairly far away from the main casinos on the "strip".

Is that the Circus Circus "motel" type rooms?

If so - yes stay!

We're thinking of heading down to Los Angelos for xmas and then driving over to LV for New Years. Anyone know of any hotel deals available for Dec 29 - Jan 1st? I know this is highly unlikely...but ya never know. Flight deals to LA from Calgary are appreciated as well.

Yes, do all you can to stay away from the 'motel' type rooms located at the rear of the property. Your better off living on the street.

At Circus Circus, they have 3 towers and the dreaded manor rooms. If you do stay there, get a room in the Main Casino Tower and reserve an 'extra large casino king'. They are quite spacious and nicely decorated.

the west tower is newest and nicest at circus circus from what i know.

anything other than the manor rooms are adequate basically.

I was able to pricematch at the luxor last week. Subtotal for 3 days from Oct 5-8 was 629 @ luxor.com (USD)

Orbitz had it for 626. With the pricematch it worked to 564.97 (plus 9% room tax)! Not a bad savings considering after tax, it was more expensive to with orbitz!

Also, if anybody is booking with usairwaysvacations.com and they have a costco membership, book through www.costco.com You'll save a little bit more there ;)

I was interested in this deal but it seems that you need to be a Club Aladdin member to get this deal, is there a way to get it without being a member or if there was a way to become a member without actually being there first. Thanks
