I did some searching .. so hopefully this is not a repost. Costco.ca has a SanDisk 4GB CompactFlash card (http://www.costco.ca/en-CA/Browse/Product.aspx?prodid=10289751&whse=&topnav=&cat=) for $179. Not the Ultra or Extreme series, but seems like a hot deal to me, if you have a CF slot on your device and need some decent storage at a nice $/GB ratio... :)

Cheers,

Rob

Anybody know how the speed of this card compares to the Seagate microdrive?

It's a slow card by CF card standards, but I think it's still faster than a microdrive (I could be wrong). But a flash card is so much better than a microdrive because it:

- has no spin up time
- gives the device way better battery life
- is more resistant to shock
- is Type I, meaning it fits in more devices

I don't know the exact number but microdrive is definitely faster than this standard CF card. I have this version of sandisk card at 256MB and a 4GB Hitachi MD for a Canon S1 IS camera. The speed of the MD is much faster than standard CF in both in-camera operation and card reader transfer (might be ten times there are lots of comparison and review on 4GB MD on the net).

Futureshop now have the 4GB Hitachi MD for the same price. However, people tend to think MD is not as reliable as the CF, which sounds right. But the 4GB MD in my mom's S1 IS camera is still working great, for two years. But for sure MD consum more power than CF.

I would not use this card for a camera even if it was free. Sandisk's standard cards are some of the slowest out there. This is not a good deal.

Here is a CF card speed comparison done by dpreview. It's a little out of date, but shows sandisk standard versus the rest. http://www.dpreview.com/articles/mediacompare/

i was under the impression that md don't work in portable devices so will the hitachi one work in my ax? there was a good deal on one at www.geeks.com but i was reading www.aximsite.com and they said that they could get it to work with the ax.
so are all md's not created equally?
