Hey i use to use Pro-Active but it gets my skin to dry and starts to peal and hurt. i tried many other things they dont work that well with me. Pro-Active actually helps me reduce my scars on my face and my pimples do get a bit better but it just gets to dry anyone else have any tips??
Also i know pro-active is pricy but its for your face so i dont mind the price range if anyone got some good tips on things that will work well on your face.

I followed this and it works ... make sure you follow the instructions properly and for the first 2-3 weeks you'll have some soreness ... Pro-active never worked for me ...

Anything with benzoyl peroxide as the active agent. Gel, cream, or soap. After bp application, apply a layer of non-oil based moisturizer .

see your doctor or a dermotologist?
The doctor can always prescribe you some creme that you can't get over the counter.
When I was a teenager, I tried everything you can find over the counter and non of them work. After I saw my doctor, he prescribed 2 different solutions that you could not buy unless you had a doctors note. I tried them one after other, before finding which one worked the best for me.
I hardly ever get pimples now and if I do, they're usually not noticable and go away after a few days using what my doctor had prescribed for me.

Id say benzoyl peroxide 20% aswell. you can get your family doctor to write it for you.

The exposed system seems to be the most highly rated.

I have never used any of the products for acne specifically but i do tend to get clogged pores easily and murad salcylic acid based products although pricey has worked well.
Reversion is a product you don't hear much about too.

My brother used half course of accutane and then started using just solugel which contains micronised benzoyl peroxide and it seems to work for him.
The whole trick to using any acne anti bacterials is to make sure to apply it all over your face and not just the spots that have acne.
The other thing is because of different skin types and genetics etc different things will work for some but not for others so you may need to try a variety of things. These days the fight against acne takes place from many angles including colon and organ cleansing to raw fish/tuna diets.
I remember using things from salicylic acid soaps to retin A gels and my acne only seems to have gone away with age.

Proactiv was great for me. Those who say it doesnt work dont use it properly. Keep in mind though, it's not a miracle product and even used propery it wont abolish 100% of your zits, but ut does work VERY well.
I had pretty bad acne when I was 14-19 and even went to a dermatologist and took pills and creams, but they dried my face so badly. Proactiv actually moisturized my face while it prevented zits. For that alone it was worth the money.
Use it 2-3 times a day properly and within 2 weeks more than looking better, your face will feel very refreshed. I thought it was worth the money.

I used proactive a few times when i was younger, it just left my face all greasey. I only used it a few times, maybe I should of have used it for a longer duration. My sister used it too but I do not think it helped her.
What worked really well fo me and my sister was a salasilic(sp?) acid based product called stevamycin(sp?). I think you need a perscription to get it. It was cheap, effective and quick to apply. It left my skin dry and tight, but it did not bother me as much as acne did.

i've been pm'ing by a few ppl to an acne specialist (he only looks at acne hehe)
he has an office in Chinatown and Scarborough
he had many types of medicine depending on many factors/health plans
ie. he can prescribe Minocin (has side effects for prolonged use) for severe Acne and creates results in less than 2 weeks but cost like $1 a pill!
and he'll also prescribe other medicine for red-heads, white heads...different of coz.
white heads will prob get prescribed something like a vitamin gel to prevent it...and benzoyl peroxide for red-heads.
btw benzoyl peroxide will bleach clothes!!!!! so dont wear anything dark like grey or brown...it will turn parts of your clothes beige/purple!!!
pm if you need the name/address of the acne specialist
if you dont have a prescription plan...he'll usually give you some samples to start to determine the effectiveness / concentration levels of each medicine

cetaphil gentle cleanser
acne.org's BO Gel
light (non clogging) moisturizer
wash your fave 3 times a day; morning, after work/school, before bed (no moisturizer when going to bed).
stick to it, if you forget one wash, you will have a breakout. there's no cure, this is prevention.
cures; i don't believe there is one.
+ common sense
-don't ever touch your face other than washing it.
-long hair is a no no
-dandruff is a no no
-sleeping on face is a no no
-try to reduce stress by doing something you like and without disturbance.
you can eat all the sweets you want, that's okay. but reducing fried foods "might" help for "some".
