Are there any good sushi restaurants in Brampton? Looking to get some takeout tonight. :)

If not, I guess I'll just head over to Sora Sushi Bar (since I read some good postings about it).

I just moved here, so any recommendations would be appreciated!
Thanks a lot~~

:arrowu: That's certainly true for now! I ended up going to Sora Sushi as nobody else posted any suggestions. In the near future, I'll try some other sushi places in Mississauga for variety. If I find any sushi restaurants in Brampton, I'll post my comments!

As for Sora Sushi Bar (just south of Square One)...
From my one takeout experience, I would say that it's worth returning to. I ordered the Rolls Lover ($15 + tax = $17.25), which had 30 pieces -- 6 salmon, 6 cucumber or avocado (your choice), 6 tuna, 12 california. It did not come with a salad or miso soup. :|

The fish was quite fresh, and the rolls didn't contain excessive amounts of rice. Always a good thing, right? :) However, the nori (seaweed) was somewhat soggy/chewy which detracted from the overall quality of the meal.

Well, at least it's enough for 3 meals (which works out to be only $5.75 each)! All in all, a good choice if you have cravings for cheap and decent sushi.

I used to work very close to there and went to Sora Sushi several times (because of its convenient location)...but I would say Sushi Tei at Burnhamthorpe & Creditview is significantly better.

YellowPages.ca lists Toshi Japanese Restaurant (http://www.toshi.ca/) near Bovaird & Hwy 10. You can find a take-out menu with prices on their website and some very positive reviews at http://www.restaurantica.com/restaurants/5148/

Sushi is Brampton is pretty hard to come by. The place at the southwest corner of Hurontario and Bovaird is called Toshi and is not bad.

There is a relatively new place on the east side of Kennedy just north of Steeles called Tokyo Yaki. It's set back from the road behind another block of buildings and can be hard to see. I've been there twice, and it was decent, but I think they're struggling. They added an AYCE menu to try and drum up some business, but last time I was there (three days ago) there was a handprinted sign in the window saying they were having trouble with their gas and were temporarily closed. Probably the death knell. There used to be an awesome restaurant in there called Formosa, but it's long gone. Everything else that goes in there just seems to die a slow death, probably because it's such a crappy location, practically invisible from the road.

Fifteen minutes up the road in Georgetown is a small place called Yo-Yo's - on the right hand side of the road just as you are coming into town from the south. It's quite good, but can be quite busy. Better to go on an off night or make reservations. Otherwise be prepared for a long wait.

That's it for sushi in the immediate Brampton area. Lots of good Vietnamese places, though. A couple of good Italians, a Middle Eastern place and a new shawarma joint on the horizon. An excess of East Indian places of varying quality as well.

Next nearest sushi that I recall is Prince Sushi on Hwy 10 in Mississauga in the AMC theatre complex, and Masume (which is quite good) on the west side of Dixie, just above Eglington in an undistinguished-looking industrial strip mall. There is a new place in Bolton, but it's basically mall-grade.

Here is a place at HWY # 10 and Courtney Park Drive ( In the AMC Theatre Complex ) called PRINCE SUSHI. This place has FANTASTIC sushi, sashimi, etc. at reasonable prices. Technically, this is not in Brampton, but no more than 5 minutes from the border.

Sushi Village. I've been twice. The first time it was a new place and not yet AYCE and I didn't enjoy it at all. Second time it was AYCE and things had improved considerably, but it was a bit pricey.

There are a couple more places just down the road. Koganei on the south side of Hwy. 7 beside Bikini Village (BONUS: take your gf for lunch and then go shopping) and Ginza on the east side of Weston Rd., north of Hwy. 7 in the Longo's plaza. Both are decent, but neither is AYCE.

The Taste of Japan (?) on the south side of Hwy.7 just east on Pine Valley (where the Taco Bell is) is to be avoided for factory-grade food. Feh.

Went by Tokyo Yaki again yesterday and it's still closed with their gas problem sign posted in the window. It's probably history.

Sushi Tei has gone down significantly in terms of service and portion size. Before they moved to their current location they were located a bit further inwards of the plaza. Miga which has opened up on Dundas is an absolutely divine place. Large portions, fresh fish and fair prices. Also it's a Korean restaurant as well and is definately worth the visit. I believe the other major intersection is Erin Mills Pkwy.

I had heard good things about Sushi Tei as well in the past, so I thought it was just bad luck that the food wasn't so great when I went last year. However, I just went today again and I have found it to be mediocre compared to what is offered at Hinote Sushi (Bristol and Ceremonial I think) and Sushi One (Mavis and Eglinton). I have also heard good things about Prince Sushi from my friends.

one of my fav sushi places in the GTA is at Islington and Bloor. Called Kame. Run by an older lady (with a ton of energy), the sushi quality is very high, and IMO the prices reasonable (compared to anywhere in Toronto, for the quantity and freshness). my wife and i eat an obscene amt of sushi; we get a 30 piece tray (mostly nigiri, with 6 spicy tuna rolls), an extra set of spicy tuna rolls and a spider crab/avocado roll. she gives us soup and salad; usually comes out to about 65-70, incl tax (tip extra). if we do takeout, she doesn't give the soup and salad. that's pretty reasonable for the volume of fish IMO

I've tried most all sushi places in Brampton/Mississauga! Some thoughts
Brampton- Toshi is great!..really good miso soup too
168 Sushi on Kennedy is AYCE..i don't like AYCE and would prefer
better quality a la carte, but I was happy with 168. prefer Toshi.

Mississauga:
-Hinote my favorite..excellent quality
-Sushi Tei...not very impressed
-Maki Maki AYCE, but only average
-Sushi One, pretty good for the affordable prices
-Masimune, really good too!

I go to 168 Sushi all the time. The sushi quality isn't fantastic, but it's good, and it's all you can eat, so it makes up for it. The people are friendly and polite and serve pretty quickly. Dinner for two is $42-48 depending on weekend or weekday (no alcohol).

Toshi is very good too, but a la carte and more expensive. Quality is better though.

If anybody else knows of any other AYCE in Brampton, please let me know.

I thought 168 was horrid, however they do deliver and well what do you expect for Brampton, I'm just surprised it wasn't a huge ripoff.

Its the only place I know of in Brampton, as Brampton doesn't seem to be Asian oriented with any decent places to have Asian food. However I could be wrong I don't know much about this dump of a city.

just went to 168 sushi yesterday. the inside is a lot nicer than you might think, given the location and the "look" on the outside. The sushi quality is not bad for what they offer; for some reason they only type have white tuna, not red; very strange. but the salmon was fresh, the food came out quickly and the service was friendly. if you want a cheap and quick AYCE in Brampton, this place is decent.

cheap? 168 is far from cheap compared to other sushi buffets out there, the sashimi is decent but the chicken and beef terriyaki tastes horrible.

Toshi's is probably the best place for non AYCE in Brampton. (I'm Biased because my GF works there). In that area though, Prince Sushi in the AMC plaza is probably one of the best AYCE sushi places I've been to in all of the GTA, very fresh, , nice presentation and pretty good atmosphere too! (I've been to a lot of sushi restaurants around the GTA so I guess my opinion is pretty good here):cheesygri

Sushi 168 isn't that bad if you need a quick sushi fix.

To tell you the truth, based on the location (I live in Brampton) and when I'm off on a weekday, they have a pretty good lunch buffet AYCE for $12.95.

For the price and what you can get, one of the best deals around!

Anyways, I do believe it's Chinese owned.

The only negative comment I can give is that when it's busy, the sushi rice is sometimes warm (ugh), but for the variety and price, I can't really complain.

Lastly, I've never gotten sick from there! :)

7/10 stars.

Location for me = +1

Cheers!

I live near Prince Sushi and have been once when it first opened. I think it is Chinese owned. It is OK but not as good as others in the west end. Same with Sushi Tei. It's not bad (better than Prince).

I have been to many all over T.O. Personally I think the west end is under-rated for their good Japanese restaurants. East-enders will disagree with this statement.

My top picks in the west-end would be (not necessarily in order and excluding very expensive - Kaji and Hashimoto):

Toshi (Bovaird and Hwy 10). Very reasonable Japanese-run. Take-out is westernized. Eat-in for a better experience. My favorites are uni and their ramen. They also make good cooked dishes. Service can be slow.

Jimbei's (Dixie and Eglinton area). Traditional Japanese restaurant. I like their ramen. Sushi is good but not fantastic.

Kumai (10 and Brittania). Excellent Japanese run place. They have Omakese for reasonable price. Overall a bit on the pricer side. Sushi is top notch as is their service.

Hinote Sushi (Mavis and Bristol). Fresh sushi and reasonable. Korean run.

Masamune (Dixie and Eglinton). Fresh sushi. A bit expensive. Korean run. Good Korean dishes too.

Iron Chef (Eglinton and Tomken). Chinese run but good sized portions and decent sushi.

Have fun :)

Hmmm...hate to revive an old thread, but does anyone know anything about a restaurant called "Brampton Sushi"?

I was on the Go Train today, and noticed it going by the Brampton Station.

It's located in Downtown Brampton right beside the Liqour Store on George Street.

I'm just wondering if anyone has been there and how new is it?

Buffet? A la carte?

Might be something to look into.
