So Far
Dodge Avenger ---- NO

Olds Aurora----- Maybe

How about Cadillac STS?

Any first-hand experiences?
Opinions?

I realize asking about a Honda would probably garner me more info, but alas, I am a domestic-minded driver....ahah

Thanks in advance.

I see they are apparently rated uber-unreliable by online sources.

Funny that my mechanic owns two and has no issues with them...

So, aside from 'unreliable ' or other 1-word replies, if anyone has first-hand experience please share, thanks.

I too am a big Japanese fan when it comes to cars, but lately I've noticed that GM especially has come out with very decent product. In saying that my vote goes to the Impala SS. Its a very sweet ride with great handling!!!!

All Northstar V8 from that era need a rebuilt by 200,000km, it's not for the faint of heart. Lots of electrical gremlins in those STS (or any luxo-GM for that matter).

It's a smart idea to buy a used luxury car if you have a specific need for them (since they all depreciate horribly), but you must budget in the money and downtime for repair. We're not talking about replacing the alternator here. What if the A/C compressor seizes on the STS? Are you going to roll down all the windows in your Caddy all summer long?

I can tell you that my uncle has both a 98 and 04 STS and he swears by them. I am not aware of him any having any problems or major issues with them. Darn nice cars to drive. :)

I would stay away from the first gen STS and Aurora's.. Second gen is another matter.

Can I suggest a late model Buick Riviera? They are fantastic cars with good engines (3.8L Supercharged Series 2 engines from 97-99), they ride and drive great, and they look fantastic. It was built on the same chassis as the aurora, but I preferred the looks of the Riv. Obviously if you need 4 doors it doesn't work as well, but there is still a decent amount of room in the back.
