Don't worry, you will gain back your weight (perhaps more) automatically over the next few month.

Well, your doctor hasnt recomended anything??
I know alot of "older" ppl and people who are ill who drink Ensure or Boost.
I've never tried them and think they probably wouldn't be that tasty.
but they are very popular.
maybe try protein shakes?
but I think the large milkshake from mcdonalds and the large mcflurry would be the tastiest opetion!
lots of callories there.
Also dairy queen ice cream and sundaes! yum!

What kind of weight are you trying to gain?
If you just want to gain fat then read Keanefan's post. However with Keanefan's method most of the fat gained will be in your butt, thighs and arms.
If your looking to gain healthy weight/muscle and want to be toned then start working out and focus on a carb/protein diet.

Go to your nearest GHC store, tell then what happened and they can point out options. Almost all the rest of the advice you got here (go to McDonalds? you'll gain it back automatically?) was garbage as none of them actually know why you lost the weight, or what illness you had. Without help, you may cause more troubles than you solve. Talk to your doctor if it's serious, if not, talk to a health food professional and make sure you exercise as part of the program. You should be fine, but there is no quick fix. To gain/lose in a healthy manner takes time.

eating and sleeping is not a myth. During sleep, your metabolism slows to a crawl while you take your (avg) 8 hour fast. If it didn't, you would end up metabolizing a lot of muscle as a food source while you sleep. Thus, if you have food in your stomach, and your metabolism has significantly slowed, you body will extract more calories and store energy in the form of fat, from your food.
Basically, faster metabolism equates faster rate of calorie usage. if calories are present in the body and your metabolism has significantly slowed, yet still moving through your digestive tract, calories are not burned as quickly as if you were awake. Also, the lack of movement before and during sleep doesn't help the burning of excessive calorie intake at night, if that may be the situation.
its worse if you eat carbs or fat at night as opposed to protein. also I read that if you eat a slow digesting protein, viod of carbs or fat (maybe tuna) it may lessen the extent to which your body burns your muscle while you sleep.. :D
