whts the differences between the three?

im no techie... i just want to know, in terms of speed and battery life, what are the differences applied numbers?

say a centrino on a 15" can last about 5 hours, how long can a core duo last?

I will compare a
dell xps m170 with centrino m
vs
dell 9400 inspiron with duo core

the dell xps m170 is 17" yet it has 3.5 hour or so life...which is good for a 17"
the dell 9400 does not. It is shorter, and I've also heard more people talk about how it gets...too hot to be comfortable.

The dell xps m170 will be faster, say playing 3d pc game. It's because it's single core, and also the xps m170 has the 7800 gtx clocked at higher frequencies.
The 9400 also might has the 7800 gtx or so, but it's frequencies are run way lower. I heard it might be even like 40% reduced performance.

The good thing about duo core is if you scan for a virus, press alt+ctrl+del and see what the memory it takes up, it might only take up 50% as the single core will use up 100% so you can do both with no lag.

Like single core, you play a high quality video in the background while trying to surf the internet and scan for viruses, it probrably wont play it as smoothly.
But it won't matter to much, 2 ghz is a lot already. and how often are you going to be scanning for viruses while playing a high quality music video while playing a game like half life 2 while having a whole bunch of other apps open at once? Don't you naturally just do 1 thing at a time? to get the most performance?

oh. so basically duo core is only good for multitasking and nothing else.

i am most concerned about the battery life. it seems like a duo core even drains more battery
