I was browsing through the Primus TalkBroadBand customer forums, and someone pointed out this statement in the Terms and Conditions at https://highspeed.3web.com/english/HighSpeedSignup/goldDslEast.jsp :

HS Users shall not be permitted to utilize any type of telephone service over the said HS Service including, without limiting the generality of the foregoing, Voice Over Internet Protocol ("VOIP").

I'm sure there are 3Web users out there that are actually using VoIP, but it's still a little surprising that they have this kind of clause in their T&C. :|

They'll be able to tell if you're using VOIP due to traffic type / ports utilized for VOIP. It's just a matter of whether or not they'll terminate your service because of it.

3web is too lazy to monitor u guys, unless ur downloading like 1000gbs a month.

There are a number of ways around VOIPing it if really wanted to and they would'nt even know. Does'nt matter which ISP. But to answer the question, I don't think 3web cares.

That's pretty pathetic considering that Voip generates next to no traffic. I assume they'll be attempting to flog their own service onto those unfortunate enough to be with them....

A guy I work with is having so many problems with 3web that he's switching back to Rogers. He literally sits on hold for at least 45 minutes when he calls their support line. On top of that, his connection is so bad that his VOIP phone won't stay connected anyways so he has to call from his cellphone.

List the problems he's having.

As I've mentioned in my other post, there are 3 distinct possible problem areas for your internet to go down. 1) Your friend's computer right up to the modem, incl the router 2) The physical line from computer to isp's server 3) ISP's server.

#2 and #3 are in control of Rogers. #1 is in control of your buddy. Where in the above is 3web? Its not a trick question. They're not in the connection picture.

3web is the middleman with a small tech support. Its only a valid gripe if you're saying that their support sucks.

This was already discussed on another forum, the general consensus is that the terms are unenforcable. If they do try and kick people of using VOIP you can bet the CRTC will be involved.
