Hi, I'm currently evaluating the feasability of building a wireless network. I don't intend to use the wireless network for transfering files since real world speed would be too slow to make it practicle to transfer large files. I'm just wondering, will there be enough bandwidth for VOIP, gaming, surfing the net, checking e-mail? I imagine there won't be any problems with gaming, surfing the net, and checking e-mails, but I'm thinking of using VOIP like skype. I intend to have at least 3 phones/account connected at all times. Any information/opinion about this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

In a house? Why not. I use my Linksys with SpeedBoster and it works fine.

And did everything that I asked?

Yup. No lag or any problems with 100% signal strength.

Unless your wireless links are dropping down to the absolute lowest connection speeds, you will have much higher bandwidth on your wireless LAN than you do on your internet connection. You can do any of those things you listed. For most people they will function faster than a 10baseT network, which is many times faster than DSL or cable .

Why wireless when for the same money you can create a massive Gigabit network? I did, and I swear by it. :)
I still have a 802.11g network as well, but it looks like a dial-up compared to Gigabit. :)

I'm currently using Telus and I'm on their 1.5mbit package. I guess I can always upgrade to 2.5mbit if I need more speed.
So you guys are sure that there are enough bandwidth for all of those tasks? What if there were 6 VOIP users on the wireless network? Sorry, I really want to be sure before I invest in the equipment.

I currently have Cat6 cables all over my house, but it's kinda messy. You're right and that I can just go out and buy a gigabit capable router, but I rather go with the convenience that wireless provides if it can do all of the following.
