Hi All,

I am looking for the driver for Xpert 2000 Pro 32MB video card. It is NOT from ATI for sure although it says "Powered by ATI Rage 128" at the back.

The video card looks exactly like this:

http://people.senecac.on.ca/jackson.chan/eb_1.jpg

I believe it is made by Sapphire, however, I can't find anything for Windows 2000. The only one it has on site is for Windows NT, which I tried, does not work on Windows 2000.

If anyone happens to know where I can find the driver, please let me know.

Thanks.

P.S. I have tried all drivers provided by ATI, but nothing works.

Try this driver from Sapphire's web site:

http://www.sapphiretech.com/en/driverfiles/90.exe

It's for Windows NT for the Xpert 2000, but it should work in 2K.

If this fails then search for a Rage 128 Pro driver, since that's what the card really has on it.

Even it's just powered by ATI, the generic/OEM drivers may work
Usually, I rarely use the rebadged drivers from the manufacturer but always from the chip maker

Have you tried "W2K_R128_5_13_01_3279.exe" ?

In case you haven't, shoot me a PM ...

Yeah, I tried it before couple times.

I got the error message saying something like "product description does not match"

Thanks.

I think by now you've wasted too much time on a card that's worth like $5.

Go out and buy a new modern one, albeit a budget one.

This chip is really not bad for 2D stuffs :)

Try twisting the heatsink to remove and see the markings on the chip?
Is it held by anything or just glued on?

It is glued tightly and can't be removed.

Get Everest Home Edition. It showed that my card was a Powercolor Radeon 9000 Series.

Try these:

http://www.fileplanet.com/55691/50000/fileinfo/ATI-Rage-Pro/AIW-Pro-vJ5.30.1-B02-(Win2k)

http://www.voodoofiles.com/1530

Also whenever u try to install a new set of drivers.
Do driver cleanup

okay is the card broken?!

i know there were a lot of defective Xpert2000 Pro 32MB when I was working as a comp technican at a store, the main symptum were BOSD during install, vid drivers won't work, etc etc

win2k/winxp were picky on the card while win98 worked ....

Use a hairdryer and blow it on the heatsink and twist it, do not try to pull it out
Should do the trick

Definently take wing0's advice and run driver cleaner. If you had another brand of video card in there before run the driver cleaner routine for it also.

I can tell from looking at it that it is either a Rage 128 or Rage 128 Pro so there is no point in prying off the heat sink. It has an ATI copyright notice on it with the year 2001. From the year and the general layout it looks to be an ATI Xpert 2000 Pro 32MB OEM. It doesn't really matter though because all the Rage 128's use the same driver.

There should be a number on the back of it - something like 101-11111111 - post that number as well as any other markings on stickers on the back.

wow. My bro just went through this exact same problem. I was helping him out and noticed that there is some confusion in the drivers that are out there for your card.

In the end I had to 'force' the driver by installing the software manually instead of using the ATI installer. When the installer runs it will unpack the driver into a directory like C:\ATI\SUPPORT but if the card is not recognized then it will quit.

Now you can manually install the driver, use the 'have disk' or similar approach and point it to your C:\ATI\SUPPORT directory.

I agree with the previous poster that you should use the driver for the RAGE 128 or RAGE 128 PRO (same driver) and not the Rage Fury or one of those similar which I kept finding confused all over the internet. Go to ATI and get it there.

Good Luck!

Thanks for your help, guys!

I ended up reinstalling the machine with Windows ME, and forced install the ATi driver.

Everything works fine now.

Thanks again, guys!

If you're just looking to playback video, you may want to try the bootable GeexBox or the win32 version of mplayer, it can use vidix and interact with your hardware directly (the overlay) even without the proper driver, cool eh
