Prices are the same as your typical Korean BBQ. About $20 per adult for dinner.

Seoul Garden Korean Restaurant
905-305-0699
4350 Steeles Avenue East,
Markham, ON
pretty decor (used to be a Demetre restaurant/cafe)
pretty Korean waitresses
yes- it is a Korean owned restaurant
taste is average
something that bugs me about this restaurant is that they like to put things on the floor rather than on a table or counter
(example: the BBQ grill cover or a plastic bin of kimchi).
wow i didn't even know that theres one around there. how much is it?
i usually go to the one at commerce, or midland and finch

i've been to that one....in market village right?
I find that their marinate is too sweet to my liking....it makes the beef and other stuff so sweet, but I guess that's more authentic and more cater toward korens.
There's another koren owned bbq at Thornhill (yonge and clark) if you like this type.

The only Korean bbq place I've ever been to is the Korean Grill House on @ 214 Queen St. W.
I love that place but knowing that there are other places in Toronto, how does it fair to them? Is it good, bad, or mediocure? I'm asking this cause I really don't have a basis for comparison, and if people say that some places are much better, I'm certainly up for trying them.

I'd give Grill Time a try. They're on Yonge, a few steps north of College. Better atmosphere than the place on Queen, and I prefer the quality of the meat there. The sides are not quite as good as the one on Queen, but you're there for the meat, right? The last time I was there, they had amazingly thick slices of squid.

Seoul Garden @ market village is the best kbbq in the markham area, better than walker hill or the one at commerce, at least its more authentic, also that place at yonge/clark seems good, went there for dinner but didn't have the bbq but looked pretty good...

I have not went to Korean BBQ in a while but I use to go all the time. I went wiith my gf yesterday, the one at Midland and Finch. I think this place is the best bang for our buck thus far. Dinner was only $14.99 and on the items avail were
beef
beef ribs
pork
chicken (marinated in satay sauce)
beef liver
ox tongue
lamb
shrimp
salmon
sole
squid
that's all i can remember. I've been to other places before and never have I seen any places with ox tongue or liver. You can take out lamb and shrimp and it's only $10.99.
Add $1 for all you can drink pop or juice.
Service was also very good.

Most of the all you can eat Korean BBQ restaurants are owned by Chinese people.
If you'd like to eat at authentic Korean BBQ restaurant, then try places near Yonge and Finch.
One I'd recommand is Sariwon (spelling?) at plaze of Yonge and Clark. The price is on the expensive side but the taste is definitely worth it. *Note, it's not all you can eat. To order BBQ, you have to order minimum of 2 servings. 1 person portion costs from $16.99-24.99 I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong. The side dishes it comes with are great too.

It depends on whether you want authentic Korean BBQ or not.
All those Chinese owned ones: Walker Hill, Korean BBQ (Go Lai Chun) are all non authentic. Koreans are probably pretty sad that we all think that is real Korean food.

Confirmed ! We went there once to Sariwon. Lots of ppl (Korean's) go there. And I guess its Korean men custom.... that lady waitress was cooking their meals for them. 4 men, business like, just drank and laughed and ate, as their "servant" cooked for them ? Me not Korean, so not sure if this is the custom.
The taste was sort of bland to me, but I'm spoiled with the fake Chinese owned Korean BBQ.
But yes, the side dishes were really neat, new stuffs. The dishes are not cheap, but the meat is real nice beef, and the seafood dish was quite a sight.

Myself being Korean, I don't think it's custom for the waitresss to cook for the clients. Besides it's not waitress all the times. They are waiters working there as well. Especially during the night, it's pretty busy and hectic at that place, we ask the waiter/waitress that we can take care of it ourselves. This way, I can eat it at my own pace.
By the way, isn't the Korean BBQ restaurant in commerce gate, Chinese-owned? I went there once and the service was horrible. I'd not recommand it.

Apr 12th, 2006, 08:21 PM
But just because a restaurant has Chinese waitress or waiters, it doesn't necessarily mean that the restaurant is owned by Chinese.
Yes, but I do notice that the manager is probably not Korean in all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ restaurants. One giveaway is that they usually speak Chinese to their waiter/waitress or clients.

Okay, I've been to this Korean BBQ and Shabu-Shabu or hot pot place last week. It is located near Finch and Yonge. Down on Yonge street on the east side. Even though our family ate hot pot that dinner, I learned that there is optional All-You-Can-Eat BBQ. The price was 15.99 or 16.99 during Mon-Thur. And 18.99 or 19.99 during Fri-Sun. You get five selection of meat. I forgot the details though. I saw a couple of Chinese guys asking the waitress about the details of this BBQ. The side dishes were looking much more fresh than others.
I think this place would be much better choice than the restaurants that are called "Korean BBQ restaurant" typically owned and operated by non-Koreans. The one at Queen St and Commerce gate comes to mind.

I guess you never tried real good korean food. Typical authentic korean BBQ is really good. It's really a shame to go to a Korean BBQ place that doesn't taste anything close to the real ones which are operated by chinese. They are cheap. That's why they are popular not because they are good.
Try Seoul House (Dufferin near Yorkdale), or some real korean BBQ places and you won't say that.
There are tons of different dish in Korea just to judge by Pork bone soup (which I only had chance to have ONCE in my lifetime in 25 years of living in Korea). Especially if you like hot food, there are so many good foods. The biggest reason I want to visit korea every now and then is the food. It's so good there. Nothing compared to here.

My favourite Korean restaurant is a family run business called Mot Na Son at 5374 Yonge St (Yonge and Finch area) - 416-222-1170. Owner Chris will guide you through the menu (which is alittle awkward and confusing to read)They do have BBQ, but in my opinion, Koren BBQ is over-rated when compared to well made Korean foods! Try the Kimchi stew, parched fish, Kimchi Ramen or Spicy beef on iron plate! Excellent, authentic Koren food! They also serve the traditional purple krean rice! Yumm! They also have the BEST side dishes on yonge street in my opinion!
Enjoy! We're here on a weekly basis!

My buddies and I usually go to the Midland/Finch Korean BBQ Restaurant, its open late, inexpensive, and overall, pretty good atmosphere.
I suggested we go to Chaku, based on keanefan's suggestion, and I think we found a new place :) Not only is it beside Destiny if we want to go relax afterwards(and own our wallets even more). But yea, we were very impressed with the waiters, they were fast and helpful. But the best thing was, we didn't pat 0.99 cents for the soft drinks, we all had about 12 refills each of Chrysanthemum tea :p
I totally forgot about the salad bar in the back though :p

I love the Kalbi from Se Jong at 658 Bloor Street West. An order of Kalbi comes as a 2 foot long strip. So delicious!! I'm not a fan of chap chae but I really liked it here.
The BBQ is real charcoal - kinda scary the first time as they come out with a bucket fulll of hot coal sticks - gives the food a really good charred taste.

Just tried Grill Time today on Yonge and College. They are currently running a promotion for lunch AYCE $6.99 per person and you get the typical beef, chicken, pork, fish, squid and sides (salad, soup and those korean dishes)
They also have a dinner promotion for monday-wednesday AYCE for $10.99 with salmon, ribs and shrimp as extra.

Damn you beat me to it. Lunch special starts at 12pm and ends roughly at 4pm. I tried the dinner special and their salmon is really skimpy its like four square pieces but all well its all you can eat =) I like their squid compared to Korean Grill House's they are in strips so you can actually cook them without them curling up.Apparently they are part of Sushi Time as well, and Sushi Time is pretty good for non AYCE sushi. Alternatively, I would go to Ka Chi for Korean food they have a very nice selection of dishes and its authentic(Korean-Owners)

What i didn't like about their grill is that they didn't add water to the side so the fire sparks were kinda flying up to out meat! but the overall atmosphere at the restaurant is pretty good, they were actually quite busy during lunch.

As posted earlier, the meat's were too sweet for my liking (it might be authentic but not my cup of tea)...couple of pretty waitresses....service was good when you caught their attention.....we had this nice korean beer called "Hite"...the final bill came to like $30 per person (we all had a couple of beers ,$5 each)....
Quick question for Korean BBQ regulars.....At Seoul garden the only dipping sauce we had was the soya sauce...i remember at a couple of other place ,you make your own sauce mixing a few stuff together?...anybody know what i am talking about??.....

Being Korean myself, I personally go to either Sariwon or Seoul Garden when I feel for authentic style Korean Barbecue (or KB, as I fondly call it), and I usually get the Galbi Ribs. Thing is two of them seem to be on the extreme ends of the scale when it comes to their marinade, with Sariwon being too bland sometimes and Seoul Garden being WAY too Sweet/Salty. Sariwon gives you more side dishes I think, though they're more expensive than Seoul Garden. Seoul Garden is actually aimed more towards Chinese customers, though (due to their location... I believe most servers are Chinese though owners themselves are Korean), so you can clearly see that there's more Chinese-Style KB influence in their food.
I still enjoy the Chinese owned ones, though, if not only for the sake of it being much more affordable. I no longer go to the Commerce Gate one or Midland one since I think they're serving up horrible quality meat now, though the two stores in Downtown are still good for now... probably because they are newer and need to make an impression first.

Haven't been there since 2005 and today just gave it a try for dinner...
It's not as good as it used to be... same kind of food, I am not saying it's not fresh but not very remarkable and not much surprised... but it's definitely for RFD'ers since it's CHEAP... dinner = $12.xx per person.
And we finished dinner @ 9 and now we still feel very thristy... might not be back for another few years.

am I the only who thinks Korean BBQ is a bit overrated? I like the concept but think the quality of the meat could be better, especially the fish. I don't think the fish is as fresh as it could be. Also, some veggies woudl be nice. I think grilled veggies would be quite tasty.

I actually prefer the lunch boxes over the dinner AYCE. Had a very smokey after smell after bbq-ing the food at the table when we got home. It's great if you have time to kill with friends, just don't bring your favorite high priced clothing...Agree on the price, can't beat that.

am I the only who thinks Korean BBQ is a bit overrated? I like the concept but think the quality of the meat could be better, especially the fish. I don't think the fish is as fresh as it could be. Also, some veggies woudl be nice. I think grilled veggies would be quite tasty.
The fish stuck to the grill when we went, it's sort of hard to grill fish. The best was the shortribs, very tasty.
