LF: A Good Car Vacuum

Hi,

I've had a terrible experience with my earlier purchase of a car vac (12v lighter, corded, red and cylindrical in shape) at Canadian Tire for $29.99. The packaging indicated 30% more power for this car vac but it was all hype and it took too much time to vacuum the car's interior.

Recently, on a visit to Canadian Tire, I saw the same lousy car vac adjacent to another one that was shaped more like cordless vac (black) also for $29.99.

I live in a condo and there are no electrical sockets close to where my car is parked. I doubt they would have outlets close to the parking spaces.

Over at the vacuum (household) aisle at Canadian Tire, I did see some cordless vacs that looked more durable than those at the automotive department but upon further investigation, I noticed that they all run on ni cd rechargeable batteries (which are not as good as metal hydride or lithium ion batteries).

Do all household cordless vacs on ni cd batteries? I am afraid that the battery life will not go beyond a year's time. Another concern I have is the steady decrease in suction power on subsequent charges. The brands I saw were: black and decker ($49), shark ($69) and dust devil ($29).

Any advice as to what vacuum and where I can get one that has a little more oomph and priced reasonable.

i think i saw one thats made by simoniz at CanTire... its a cannister style vac they go on sale every once in awhile and will run you $50-60

for cordless, DirtTamer Ultima seems to be the king

14 volts should have some oomph
its a wet/dry with hepa filter too

i think ur best bet for oomph is to run a long extention cord down to the parkade if possible

or theres outta be an outlet there somewhere, i know there are some in my apartment's parkade, just need to find it

there is only so much a car vac can do, the max they can draw is 12v and that isnt much for a vacuum

Two years and a half later, your idea makes perfect sense. Cordless vacs just don't cut it and I only noticed that there are outlets near building entrance on every parking lot level. Geez, what was the matter with me these past few years.

Where can I get a shopvac for cheap and what model should I be looking for? All I have to clean is a Honda Civic.

Will this model do? I guess I can use this too when I move out of this apartment and into a slightly bigger home. Any suggestions where I can buy one (or an alternative brand) cheap?

I have that one ... it's quite good but you'd most likely need an extension cord unless your outlet is very close by.

Get a power inverter and plug it into your car just be sure that whatever vacuum you are using does not exceed the watts of the inverter.
