Heard on CP24, Tim Hortons will be opening up to an Afghanistan near you, well, for now theyre setting one up near the Canadian military base out of the back of a trailer for Canadian Soldiers. They say it will boost Canaidans moral, and they will enjoy it more. I say go for it, next thing you know, they open a store near Kabul and it becomes really popular.

No... they are not expanding to Afghanistan. This one is probably just a tent serving timmies donuts and coffee so our boyz overseas still get a taste of Something canadian. Again... as the OP mentioned, it will boost soldier morale.

If i was fighting overseas i sure as hell would llike to have something so close to home as a Tim Hortons coffee/donut

There are some Tim's in the states, I have a friend in Detroit who goes regularly.

The one they are opening in Afghanistan was requested by the Canadian military, apparently a lot of soldiers were asking for Tim's over there, the military will be transporting the goods I believe.

The store is expected to be housed inside a trailer with takeout windows, and deliveries will be made to the Canadian base in Kandahar by military transport. Staffing is yet to be determined. There are 2,300 Canadian troops in the Kandahar region.

Since it's a really dangerous job, working around a warzone; do you think you get paid alot more? Like $27-45 and hour?

Great...now the terrorists will have a new target...but then again...if they think it's Canadian maybe they'll leave it alone.

No this isnt a regular tim hortons franchise opening in Afghanistan. Read the post.

My friend who is doing a tour in afghanistan, is getting paid $120 a day.
7-11 months training in Canada.
7-11 months overseas.

You still get paid while doing the prep work before going on tour. Apparently you get danger pay while your over seas which is a "bonus".

Thats ALOT of money considering that you wont be spending a penny... youll just be doing your duties all day. Then when you get back home you have a **** load of cash.

umm...havent u seen the canadian forces commercials? my friend did 2 yrs in the reserves during his last yr of univ...if you sign on full-time after graduation, there are some pretty HEFTY signing bonuses. He got paid for those summers when he was training, and during the year whenever they have exercises as well

This is such a PR move, pretty lame.
Free promotional advertising for the Tim Horton's corporation, they're doing the "right thing", so people here will view them in good light.

This isn't really about the soldiers. Any move a corporation makes is never about the end user, it's always dehumanizing, and it's always to better their own capitalist pleasures.

Free PR and a chance for the Tim Horton's corporation to see how they draw crowds internationally. Perhaps to invite future investors on foreign soil when people wonder what the commotion is about.

Another 'bleh' move by a stupid corporation.

Tim Hortons in the states just doesn't sell the same way it does in Canada.

Sending a Timmys to Afghanistan is a great idea for our troops, I just hope that when we pull our troops out we don't forget about the Timmys people!

Probably, but do you think the soldiers in Afghanistan give a crap about that? It's a little bit of home during their tours of duty. I think they appreciate the gesture even if it just a PR move. I would hope more corporations did something similar. Imagine the corporate dollars that could go into increasing morale, provisions, resources, or providing some relief. That would be the kind of morale boost our troops need since they've taken some hits recently.

Honestly, Tim Hortons owns the market in Canada.. they have little room for expansion, look at any city and there is a Timmys on every corner.

Yes it may be PR, but who cares, all businesses are interested in positive PR.

Considering the giant need for Timmy's in Canada, I think it's great to supply our service people with something from home. I'm all for it, so long as it's not costing us tax payers. If Timmys wants to fund it, fan-********-tastic.

I think pretty much as long as there are enough people there, there is a Timmy's. Obviously I'm not saying there is no chance of new Timmy's opening, but they own the market, it's just a matter of their choice to drop a new Timmys location or not.

Now that Tims just defrosts their doughnuts, they can do that in Afghanistan too. I've seen Tims in Buffalo, Maine and Detroit so far. I wonder if they sell the defrosted doughnuts there too...but I prefer Dunkin Donuts in the States if I can find one....

Wow I understand the coffee but, wouldn't the donuts make our troops round and plump.

Guess all the running and shooting burns off a lot of excess fat.
