I've thought about it, but haven't done it yet. It'll probably get done on one of the cars this week, and then I'll do the other one in April after the Costco tire sale starts (need to get new tires on that one anyway).

Was just saying the same thing to the wife last night....what was the point of winter tires this year?
I think I'll change mine out this weekend.

We really haven't had much of a winter.. it snowed a few times, but it never stayed and we rarely were much below zero. I quite enjoyed this "winter".
But that's because I'm a summer person.

I'm bringing my summer car out of storage next weekend, it only has summer performance tires on it. However, this car is not our main family vehicle, if we get hit with a big snow storm, I can just park it and wait till it's nice again.
I can't wait to get rid of my winter beater, even though it's been a great car (15 year old Tercel).

I usually change my tires in the 3rd week of April. A couple of years ago it was really nice in March so I changed to summer tires early. Then there was a snow storm in early April and it was not fun driving with summer tires on. Even though the winter tires are very loud, I don't mind waiting a couple more weeks. :)

Since the average (not maximum) temperature in GTA has not been above 7C for at least 5 consecutive days the answer is NO.

After looking at the 14 day forecast, it looks like there's going to be a dip below 0 coming up late next week and through that weekend and goes up from there. So methinks, I'll change it after next week.
The threshold the way I see it is, around zero fluctuations + freezing rain.

definately a great winter for us . especially due to the fact that i only had to plow the driveway twice , and most of the snow melted within a week . had a bit of a cold snap but the next week is sure to be nice . but then again , we have been hit with nor-easter`s well after this period . ;)

My brother in law is always eager to change them asap because he doesn't like the ride of his winter tires compared to his z-rated summers, changes the whole 'driving experience' for him. But I know what you mean, I wouldn't risk doing it with my main driving vehicle.

In warm weather, the softer rubber compound on winter tires wears away a lot quicker than in winter.

I figure I'll change my tires at the end of the month or beginning of April.
This is the first week in which we've had nice weather in Toronto, and I'm sure mother nature would like to give us one more slap in the face before it's over for good measure.

I'm probably goign to swap to summer's on my Integra this weekend... My reason is because I have developed a slow leak in both rear tires and I'm too cheap to repair them.... since spring is around the corner I guess I'll just get a head start and tip toe around or take the bus if it snows again.

If your summer tires are already pre-mounted on your alloy wheels, you can easily swap them with your winter tires/rims. All you need is a crow bar (or torque wrench preferrably) and a car jack (with jack stands preferrably).

Is the alloy wheels easier to be damaged? Could I measure how much torque I apply to them?

The structural integrity maybe compromised as they're not designed to be used in hot temperatures....hence the term "winter" tires.

If you have the summer on rims already, it's going to take less than 40mins to swap even only with hand tools.
If not, it's not a bad idea to mount your summer on the original alloy rims and your next set of winter on some cheap steelies. This save you the money for tire balancing and mounting every now and then if you store them right.

I don't use winter tires.
Since most winter tires provide worse performance on wet and dry roads than regular all-seasons do, and even in winter the road is not snow or ice covered 90% of the time, you're just sacrificing your safety 90% of the time to achieve improved safety 10% of the time when the road is actually icey or snowy.
Doesn't make any sense to me.

The rubber material winter tires use doesn't harden/freeze under certain degree of temperature like summer tires do.
So you do benefit from using them in the winter even with no snow.
I do agree many winter tires do very poorly on ice.

That's not what Consumer Reports recently reported.
Virtually all winter tires it tested did worse on dry and wet roads in winter than decent all season radials did.
The winter tires only had the edge on snow covered and icey roads, which we see, what, maybe 10% of the time? They're pretty quick at clearing roads here in Toronto.

I do see your point, it really depends on which part of the country you are living in.
If you live in some place that is constantly -15 to -20C in winter, it's better to have them on than all season.

My winter tires handle just fine on wet and dry roads. no sacrifice what so ever! I wouldn't mind using them all year round if it wasn't for the fact that they are loud and wear down quicker in warm weather due to their softness. winter tires are a 1000% improvement over my all seasons in snowy weather. :D

Well look at it this way:
You sacrifice abit of dry and wet traction/handling or ALOT of snow handling.
And besides, if you say that 10% of the time your winter tires actually do see snow, of that 10%, you only need one scenario in which your winter tires allow you to stop faster to avoid an accident, to make them worthwhile, right?

Where should I get a cheap set of all seasons from? I need four 13s, Crappy Tire has some on sale for $40 each, are those okay? Anything is better than what I have now, I just don't want to pay over $200 for 4 new tires. Walmart also has some cheap tires that I saw.
Also, when I take the winter tires off the rims and put the all seasons on, where do I go in the fall to get them changed again? For a tire swap, how much would a shop charge?
