Toronto Wine and Cheese Show

Hi!

The Toronto Wine and Cheese show is in a couple of weeks. Anyone ever been? Is it worth it? How much do the wines usually go for? Any tips?

I've been several times before.

The pretension is so thick you can cut it with a knife.

If you're a wine snob, you'll fit right in and be accepted into the little clique that sets itself up there. These people are downright pathetic and laughable.

With that said, there is usually some good food and you don't need to drink wine. It's not cheap. Sample tickets were 2 or 3 for a $1 last time I was there and most cheap samples (ie. not rare vintage wines, expensive liquors, etc) were 4-5 tickets, IIRC.

I enjoyed going in the past, but I don't enjoy being treated like a second class citizen because I don't pretend that I enjoy expensive wine. Go there and trust me, you'll see what I'm talking about.

It's a complete waste of time. Don't even consider it.

It is coming up this weekend. I tried e-mailing them to see if we could get an RFD type coupon for a discount. They replied back and told me about their "group" rate but, I have no intention of buying 20 tickets. So, I responded back and I explained RFD a bit more. I didn't hear anything else from them.... I am suprised how clueless these people can be. Even if they gave people here a $3 off coupon it would probably bring a LOT more people into the show.

They already get a lot of traffic going to this show... this year they decided to stop offering their $3.00 off coupons on their website too!

Meh....someone had ***** for breakfast....

When I lived closer, I used to go every year, to learn about new wineries and to see if I could taste the difference between $20 wine and $100 wine.

I found some really outstanding wines in the $75 range,which I bought back then and still enjoy today.

The W&C show is also a great opportunity to try beer from the little breweries. and also to try some licquors, without dropping the big $ at the LCBO.
Wanna know the difference between a Ruby Port and a Tawny Port?
Wanna know the difference between Cognac and Armangnac?
Wanna know the difference between ice wine and Sauterne?
This is your opportunity.

Its not about snobbery. Its about exploring new ways to enjoy alcoholice beverages.

Just like the Auto show, there's a Rolls Royce booth and also a Kia booth, and everything in between.
Its a show for everyone, including you.
Don't begrudge the people who like (and can afford) the finer things in life.

I agree with mlc on this. I go to sample different wines without spending for the whole bottle. It does suck, however, that they've discontinued the coupon. $18 each for entry plus $1 per sample ticket is pretty steep.

Always wanted to go, but I live way too far from it being in Peel... Driving away from there probably wouldn't be possible after guzzling 50 glasses of wine :)
