Yes or no.
If you don't know what plating is, then you probably shouldn't post here.

Me, I really don't care about. Say I went to a restaurant ordered a dish, if they give it to me in a clean and proper manner, I'm satisfied. However if they give it to me all dazzled up, garnished and what not..I really don't care.

When you dress it up its to sell the sizzle not the steak.

Depends:

If i am going to a simple inexpensive rest., no I dont care. It could be served on a paper plate or a banana leaf.

If i am paying top dollar for a high-end dining experience, sure i care.

If the food is no good, then it doesnt matter what the plate looks like, but if the food is excellent and it is beautifully presented it only serves to enhance the whole meal.

If it's just regular dinner at home, not really. But if I were to entertain, I try to plate my dishes nicely if possible. I won't go over the top but I'll try to put some effort into it

I don't care as long as the food tastes good. The only time I care is that food isn't kept "seperated" and there's spillage and mixing of flavours.

Depends on if/or how many stars the restaurant has.

If I'm paying $$$ for a meal! I want it to look nice and be well presented.

but if I'm just getting take out or something inexpensive- you can't really expect it there.

plating?? what's plating....lol jk! ;)

Same here... if it's dinner for one, who cares?

If i'm hungry then I don't care. If i'm paying good money then I care if the food is good and then I care if it looks good. Food then presentation.

However, I don't want my food slopped onto my plate like the chef's 5 year old was on the plating station. Then again, if it's great food then I don't really care.

It's all about the presentation. If the dish looks good, it should make you want to taste it. Just the the restaurant itself. If it looks good from the outside, it should make you want to go in.

as long as the plates don't have any greasy thumb prints on the circumference, then im alright..

but then again.. ur posting this question to RFD.. we love buffets and value food for the price first; presentation 2nd. heck if it is the freshest seafood pad-thai and it came in a styrofoam box, i'd choose it over any zen-like, aysymetrically shaped stark-white china with black chopsticks and red napkin..

sushi, however.. has to be presented tastefully, since its a plate or boat of more than just a few pieces..

Just made a meal here at home and decided to put some effort in to plating. It turned out nicely and made the experience of eating it more fun.
Sorry no pics, we were hungry.

I could care less about it if I'm at home

Yes, even at home, if I'm serving food on a plate, I make sure it's assembled nicely.

It would depend on the dining establishment/situation. As mentioned above, if I'm at a fine dining restaurant, I would place a greater importance on food presentation. Whereas I wouldn't care as much if I was ordering a burger and fries.

A while ago, I was upgraded to business class on the condition that I would only receive an economy meal. The flight attendants did make an effort in serving the 'economy' meal using fine china, tablecloths, etc. Somehow, the beef noodle entree tasted better than the one that was served a few weeks prior

Of course. I didn't realize that some people did not take the extra couple of minutes.

plus 1! exactly my opinion.
if it sone of those >$20 resturants then i dont care as long as they got good food. if the food is average... then they better got some friendly service!

What it comes down to is this:

I would rather pay less for a dish not "plated" as nicely than pay more for the same dish just presented better.

I like plating my food when I can. Price, taste, and atmosphere aside, if we're just talking about plating vs. not plating, then I'll always choose plating!
