Wasn't 802.11n Certified recently?

Only as a draft approval. This means that it can be modified before the final (voting members) approval. I thought that was going to occur in 4Q06 or 1Q07.

It's quite likely that you if you purchase this pre-N unit, it won't function with future 802.11n certified products.

didn't have any at Weston/Hwy 7 store. too bad = (

[Off topic]
There were other stuff on clearance though. I noticed a big 12inch round clock for ~$2, I think it was regular $11.

Went back at noon today... They still had two routers and a handful of notebook cards with PCI adapter. Picked up the card today, so now I'm Pre-N all the way!

I don't have tha SKU, as I left the receipt at the office, but if you call the Burlington store, they could probably look it up. They are in the display case at the front of the store. The number is (905) 319-8449.

pre-pre-N(54G :D ) belkin routers & cards are utter crap

dollar store style support(in terms of firmware releases) & nearly unconfigurable router

how are these?

wireless range is fantastic!
but router is crap. had trouble with mine...needs a firmware upgrade, but nothing yet from belkin.
but they can be configured to work as an access point...if i was near burlington i would snap them up for that price.

Pre-N signals could be just marketing ploy. Try NetStumbler with it and see the signal/noise ratio.

With release of N standard draft recently approved by IEEE. Be prepared to shell out more $$$ when the new "N" product hits shelves in Q2 of this year...

From recent article release:

That company has stated that any chipmakers claiming they can upgrade products from the draft to final 11n are irresponsible and "may mislead consumers who do not fully understand the IEEE process," and that several rounds of review are needed before such claims should be made.

Speed and range are excellent! I did have to reboot it once to make it reconnect to my DSL provider. If this persists, I'll switch it to AP mode and use my old Microsoft MN100 for routing.

This deal must be local to your store only. I went to the Office Depot at Yonge and Steeles. They had 1 PCI Pre N card for $70. I then went to the one at Woodbine and Hwy 7 and they had NOTHING.

Lucky you. For the rest of us... no dice.

Yup, I found one Pre-N PCI card for $70 at one store, and nothing at another. Oh well.

None in the GTA area from what I know.

If anyone has a router or an extra one or is out WEst, I'll pay extra for shipping for one!

Thanks.

Pre N PCI and PCMCIA cards $29 at office Depot on Burnhamthorpe in Mississauga

I found an interesting post on dslreports.com that describes how to upgrade the Belkin unit to Linksys firmware. Apparently it has the same system board as the Linksys WRT54GX and this firmware makes it much more stable.
